TITLE: KAPRE

INT. CAFE DAY

JONSON is walking into a bustling cafe, he stops and focuses

on a young woman who is serving the customers. The young
woman is slim, long hair only into her mid twenties. She has
a pleasant and peaceful way about her. Smiling as she serves
the customers.

In the cafe there are customers dotted through out. They are
eating, talking and generally enjoying their day. JONSON
approaches the waitress.

JONSON MENDOZA
Hi. Are you Regine? REGINE?

The young lady stares at him briefly then answers.

REGINE
Yes I am.

JONSON MENDOZA
I am JONSON Mendoza, I have an
appointment with you.

REGINE
Oh yeah! It’s a pleasure to finally
meet you, I am a big fan.

JONSON beams a smile at Regine.

JONSON MENDOZA
Did I catch you at a bad time? We
can reschedule if you like?

REGINE
Oh no, not really I am just
finishing my shift then we can
talk. You sit over here. Can I get
you anything while you wait?
Coffee? Water? I will only be a few
more minutes.

JONSON MENDOZA
Coffee would be great.

JONSON sits at a small table.

2.

FADE OUT.

FADE IN:

INT. CAFE DAY

JONSON is sitting at the table now with REGINE sitting

opposite him. On the table is his trusty recorder.

JONSON MENDOZA
Tell me Regine. You claim to have
had an experience with the
legendary figure known as the
KAPRE.

REGINE
Yes I have, it was a few years
back. Fresh out of college and
fresh out of an abusive
relationship. I was on my own. My
family is pretty far away you see,
so here I am fending for myself
trying to make ends meet. My father
gave me a graduation gift of a
small house and lot here. It was
really run down but at least it was
home.

FADE OUT.

FADE IN:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE DAY

The house is very run down, the fence out front is in

complete disarray. The yard is disheveled and the paint on
the house and fence is badly cracking and peeling. REGINE is
outside with a scraper trying to scrape off the peeling paint
when she hurts her hand causing a small cut to her finger.

REGINE
Ouch! Grrrr. Great! Just great!

An unusually strong wind blows at her tussling her hair.

She turns as if she senses something strange to her side. She

faces the direction of the blowing wind.

CUT TO:
3.

EXT. GIANT TREE DAY

there standing majestically is a large gnarled tree that

seems to stretch all the way to the sky.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE DAY

She stares at the tree in wonderment. Then her cell phone

rings startling her.

She answers it and leaves the front yard then enters her
house.

CUT TO:

EXT. GIANT TREE DAY

The wind blows through the tree causing the branches to sway
back and forth.

CUT TO:

INT. SMALL HOUSE DAY

Inside REGINE is in her bedroom on her cell phone she is

mending her small wound.

REGINE
Oh it’s just a small cut dad,
sometimes working on this place by
myself is a bit much. I’m really
starting to get contractors hands
doing this. I have begun to get
callouses too. I know. If you could
be here it would be different. Tell
mom I love her OK? Bye.

She hangs up the cell. She finishes placing the band aid onto
her finger.

She takes a long look at her hands and notices the roughness
in them.

REGINE ESPERANZA
Wow they are really becoming rough.

She looks over at the clock. She becomes animated.

4.

REGINE
Crap! Where does the time go, can’t
be late for work.

FADE TO BLACK.

FADE IN:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE NIGHT

A Jeepney comes charging up to the front of the house

billowing it’s cloud of exhaust. It stops and REGINE exits
from the back. She takes a few steps and then focuses on the
house. She stops dead in her tracks with wide eyed wonder.

The entire house is scrapped clean and no paint scraping’s to

be found anywhere. She approaches the house cautiously as she
looks all around confused.

REGINE
Hello? Anyone there? (she waits for
an answer) OK well to whoever did
this, I guess thank you is in
order.

She hurriedly unlocks her door and enters the house.

CUT TO:

EXT. GIANT TREE NIGHT

The wind blows through the giant tree again. Then deep in the
branches there begins to build a reddish glow from burning
embers. They flare up then back to nothingness. There is also
a very deep and resonant slightly playful laugh.

FADE OUT.

FADE IN:

INT. SMALL HOUSE BEDROOM NIGHT

REGINE is exiting her bathroom wearing a bathrobe and towel

on her head. She makes her way to her bed. As she gets into
bed her cell beeps with a message. She grabs it and looks at
the message.

The message is from her ex boyfriend Arnel.

5.

The message says “Baby come on give me another chance.

Please. I love you!”.

REGINE
Arnel can’t you take a hint, over
is over! Ugg!

She slams the phone down. Lays on the bed in disgust. Then
rolls over to the night stand that the phone is on and picks
the phone back up and looks at the message again.

REGINE
You slept with my batch mate you
jerk!

She slams the phone down again. She gets up and turns the
lights off then jumps playfully into bed. She rolls over and
begins to quickly drift off to sleep.

The room is now filled with bluish moonlight from her bedroom
window and the shadows dance across her room.

She rolls over on the bed and as she does the room goes from
bluish white to almost completely black for something very
large has filled the framing of her window.

REGINE is oblivious to this event. Through the bits of blues

that are casting into her room the color is broken by the
flare up and reddish glow of burning embers that illuminates
the wall by her bed.

The reddish glow grows brightly then extinguishes. REGINE

stirs in her sleep. The giant shadow retreats quickly.

FADE TO BLACK.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE DAY

REGINE is outside in shabby clothing preparing to begin

painting of her house. She is assembling her tools, paint
brushes, paints etc.

She pops open a paint can with a screwdriver, then begins to

stir the paint with a paint stick.

CUT TO:
6.

INT. GIANT TREE DAY

A large shadowed figure is watching REGINE begin to paint her

house. He lets out a low rumbling sigh.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE DAY

REGINE hears something come from the tree and she looks up to
it, scanning it intently.

CUT TO:

INT. GIANT TREE DAY

The large figure backs up trying not to be seen. REGINE then

turns away going back to her painting.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE DAY

As REGINE paints a woman walks up to her gate. It is a

neighbor lady. She is middle aged with a very kind and
compassionate face.

ATE PAULINE
Morning Regine. Hard at work i see.

REGINE turns, smiles and stands up to greet her.

REGINE
Morning ate. Yeah still trying to
make this look like a house. Ate.
Have you seen anyone around here?

ATE PAULINE
What do you mean?

REGINE
Well someone has been helping me
but I don’t know who they are. My
house and fence was completely
scraped clean while I was at work.
I want to thank who did it but they
didn’t even leave me a note.
7.

ATE PAULINE
Really? Well that is a very kind
thing to do. Maybe you have a
secret admirer dear.

REGINE
What? No. You think? So you never
saw anyone around?

ATE PAULINE
No dear.

ATE PAULINE looks up to the tree.

CUT TO:

INT. GIANT TREE DAY

The large figure is looking down at ATE PAULINE looking up at

the tree.

ATE PAULINE
Maybe you have a KAPRE there in
your tree?

The large figure reacts to the news.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE DAY

REGINE looks puzzled at ATE PAULINE.

REGINE
KAPRE? In my tree? Ate your having
fun with me. Those are just
stories, fairy tales.

ATE PAULINE
I wouldn’t do that to you dear. Not
all stories are fairy tales you
know.

REGINE ESPERANZA
Now Ate why would I have a Kapre in
my tree here.

ATE PAULINE
They are known for taking a fancy
to a special woman. Maybe he’s your
admirer? You never know.
8.

REGINE begins to smile.

REGINE ESPERANZA
Me. Special? Ate there’s nothing
special about me.

ATE PAULINE
That’s what makes you special dear.
You don’t even see it.

REGINE still smiling turns to the tree.

CUT TO:

INT. GIANT TREE DAY

The large figure still staring down, now intent on Regine.

REGINE
Well Mr. KAPRE. If your the one who
has done all of this then thank you
for all your hard work. I
appreciate it very much.

The KAPRE giggles almost silently.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE DAY

ATE PAULINE smiles at Regine.

ATE PAULINE
Well dear I must be going, don’t
work to hard now.

REGINE
I won’t ate. Thank you for the
visit.

REGINE goes back to her chores of painting. She stops and

looks up again at the tree, she thinks so for a moment then
smiles. She returns to her work.

Time lapse of REGINE working hard painting, getting paint on

her face and hands as she makes her way from the front of the
house around to the left side. At the end of the wall she
stops and wipes her brow. REGINE is all sweaty and
disheveled. She is exhausted.
9.

The sun is setting in the distance, the sky has grown all
colorful with the vibrant hues of dusk.

REGINE stands admiring her hard work.

REGINE
Well two walls done. That’s enough
for one day.

She puts down her paint brush, puts the lid back onto the can
she has been working with. She then heads for the front door.

FADE TO BLACK.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE NIGHT

REGINE comes hurriedly out from her house carrying a

suitcase. She has her cell phone to her ear. She is visibly
shaken and upset.

REGINE
Yes ATE PAULINE. I should only be a
few days. No I don’t know what the
doctors said yet, all I know is my
dad was taken to the hospital, my
aunt said he fell unconscious at
home.

A cab pulls up.

REGINE
OK ate my cabs here now. I have to
rush to the airport. Please just
look after my place. Thanks.

CUT TO:

INT. GIANT TREE NIGHT

From the giants point of view he peers down at the unfolding

scene.

She hangs up her cell phone and pockets it. The cab driver
comes around to help her with her bag by putting it into the
trunk. She gets into the cab.

He emits a low guttural moan in sadness.

CUT TO:
10.

INT. CAB NIGHT

Regine’s face all covered in tear streaks looks helplessly

out the window of the cab as it pulls off.

CUT TO:

INT. GIANT TREE NIGHT

The giant looks on as the cab drives off into the distance.
He then turns his gaze to the unfinished house.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE NIGHT

A giant hand reaches down to the paint can and brush that
REGINE left outside. He pops the loose lid off the paint can
and places it at the can’s side.

It dips the brush gently into the paint.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE NIGHT

The giant hand with the brush nestled between it’s two large
fingers begins carefully painting the back wall of the house.

The scene switches back and forth between the painting and
the dipping of the paint brush into the paint can. Until the
can becomes empty.

The giant hand reaches for another paint can, this one is
tightly sealed. With his large unwieldy hands he tries
unsuccessfully to open it.

He emits a sound of despair and frustration.

A voice breaks the night and draws his attention to the

source.

ATE PAULINE
Your going to need this Mr. KAPRE.

CUT TO:
11.

EXT. SMALL HOUSE NIGHT

ATE PAULINE is standing at the edge of the house with a

screwdriver in her hand.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE NIGHT

The shadowed figure reacts nervously. It’s on it’s knees then

rights itself and slowly stands up revealing it’s massive
size. He is about twelve feet tall in size, built like a
power lifter. He blocks all light from behind him. Just his
silhouette remains. All that can be seen is the rough outline
of his physique and his clothing. The remaining light barely
illuminates his face.

He takes a step back.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE NIGHT

ATE PAULINE takes a step forward and motions the screwdriver

to the giant.

ATE PAULINE takes the initiative and walks to the unopened

paint can and starts to open it for the KAPRE.

ATE PAULINE
You need not fear me Mr. KAPRE.
Your doing a good thing for Regine.
Sometimes we all need a bit of
help. Even if it is from unlikely
sources.

KAPRE
Funny. I thought it would be you
that is afraid of me.

ATE PAULINE
Why would I fear someone who would
do something like this. Besides if
you wished to harm me we wouldn’t
be having this conversation now
would we?

KAPRE
Hehe. Very intuitive of you.
12.

ATE PAULINE
REGINE would be surprised to know
of what your doing for her.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE NIGHT

The KAPRE still standing still looking intently at ATE

PAULINE. He then becomes animated and nervous.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE NIGHT

KAPRE
No, NO Ate. I ask only one thing of
you. Please do not tell her of
this. I. I do not want to frighten
her I just wish to make her smile.

ATE PAULINE
As you wish.

The can pops open.

ATE PAULINE
There it’s open now.

She hands the paint can to the KAPRE.

KAPRE
Thank you for your assistance. Your
very kind.

ATE PAULINE
Well. I must be going, I’ll leave
you to your work.

She turns to leave.

KAPRE
Wait! One moment.

CUT TO:

EXT. GIANT TREE NIGHT

The KAPRE strides over to his tree and takes both of his
hands and grabs the tree’s trunk. He begins shaking it hard.
13.

From the top of the tree a small object falls to his open
waiting hand.

CUT TO:

EXT. GIANT TREE NIGHT

The giants big hand is gently holding some kind of fruit.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE NIGHT

He strides over to ATE PAULINE who scans him from the toes
up. She is aghast by his massive size and it shows in her
eyes.

His large hand stretches outwards and hands the fruit to her.
She takes it from him.

ATE PAULINE
Why thank you Mr. KAPRE. That is so
sweet of you.

He backs up while still in shadow he nods and slightly bows

to her.

KAPRE
ATE PAULINE. My name is Jun. Please
call me Jun.

ATE PAULINE
Jun is it? Well You have a good
night. Jun.

ATE PAULINE exits from the back of the house headed towards
the front smiling and slightly watching Jun as she leaves.

FADE TO BLACK.

TITLE: 3 DAYS LATER

EXT. SMALL HOUSE DAY

A cab rolls up on the small house and REGINE exits the cab.
REGINE is completely astonished by the sight. The house is
completely painted and finished, even the landscaping is
done.
14.

Regine walks slowly up to the fence of the house scanning and

examining everything. She also notices some cigar ashes near
the bottom of the fence.

At that moment ATE PAULINE walks up to the fence.

ATE PAULINE
How’s your father dear?

REGINE is aghast and speechless but she utters a response.

REGINE ESPERANZA
He’s fine ate. It was nothing
serious. Ate? Who did all of this?

ATE PAULINE beaming a smile.

ATE PAULINE
You wouldn’t believe me if I told
you dear.

REGINE ESPERANZA
Really ate. Who did this I want to
know.

A voice rings out from behind them. It is REGINE’S ex-

boyfriend ARNEL.

ARNEL
You like it?

REGINE and ATE PAULINE turn to ARNEL.

REGINE ESPERANZA
You did this?

ARNEL acting confident and cocky.

ARNEL
Yeah. Sure I did.

ATE PAULINE glares at ARNEL.

ATE PAULINE
You didn’t do this!

ARNEL
I said I did. You want to dispute
that?

ATE PAULINE
Maybe I do!
15.

ARNEL
If I didn’t do it then who did
Pauline?

ATE PAULINE goes to answer then stops herself and stammers.

ARNEL
See babe. I did all this for you.
Think of it as a makeup gift.

REGINE looking confused at ARNEL and ATE PAULINE.

REGINE ESPERANZA
Arnel you know how I feel. You hurt
me deeply.

ARNEL
I’m sorry Regine. Please believe
me. I never meant to hurt you I
just want to prove my love to you.
I’ve missed you so much.

CUT TO:

EXT. GIANT TREE DAY

The KAPRE watching the unfolding events grows agitated and

lets out a disapproving grunt. He grabs and picks a fruit
that is hanging from one of the branches.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE DAY

As ARNEL stands there smiling widely at REGINE he is then hit

squarely in the head with the fruit knocking him flat to the
ground.

REGINE reacts to ARNEL getting hit and races to his aid.

ATE PAULINE looks up at the tree with a concerned look on her

face then helps REGINE with ARNEL.

ATE PAULINE leans to ARNEL’S ear.

ATE PAULINE
Your lucky it was just a fruit that
hit you.
16.

ARNEL
What?

REGINE and ATE PAULINE helps the dazed and groggy ARNEL up
and they take him into REGINE’S house.

FADE OUT.

FADE IN:

INT. SMALL HOUSE DAY KITCHEN

ARNEL is sitting in a chair in REGINE’S kitchen. REGINE is

placing an ice pack against ARNEL’S head where the fruit hit.

ATE PAULINE is standing staring at ARNEL with her arms folded

and with a look of disgust on her face.

ATE PAULINE gets REGINE’S attention.

ATE PAULINE
Regine. Dear can I speak with you.
Over here.

REGINE looks up at ATE PAULINE.

REGINE ESPERANZA
Here hold this.

REGINE goes to ATE PAULINE.

ATE PAULINE
Dear. Things aren’t what you think
they are.

REGINE ESPERANZA
What do you mean ate? You’ve been
acting peculiar since Arnel showed
up. Tell me ate please. Did he do
all this work for me or not?

ATE PAULINE
As much as I want to I can’t answer
that.

REGINE becomes slightly irritated.

REGINE ESPERANZA
Why ate? Why can’t you tell me?

ATE PAULINE
I made a promise.
17.

REGINE grows confused.

REGINE ESPERANZA
A promise? Ate I’ve known you since
I moved here, you have always been
honest to me.

ATE PAULINE
And I always will dear but a
persons promise is something that
should be taken very seriously.

REGINE ESPERANZA
Ate. If you can’t tell me what’s
going on then I have no choice but
to believe that Arnel did this for
me. And I have to ask you to leave
us now. I’m sorry.

ATE PAULINE’S eyes grow sad.

ATE PAULINE
But. But, you don’t understand
dear.

REGINE ESPERANZA
Maybe I don’t ate. I really think
you should go now.

ATE PAULINE with a look of sadness goes to leave but then

stops by ARNEL.

ATE PAULINE
You better not hurt her.

ARNEL with a cocky grin on his face looks up to ATE PAULINE.

ARNEL
Whatever.

ATE PAULINE scowls at ARNEL then exits.

FADE TO BLACK.

FADE IN:

INT. SMALL HOUSE KITCHEN NIGHT

REGINE and ARNEL are finishing up dinner. REGINE is cleaning

up the table.

ARNEL is full and satisfied yawns and stretches.

18.

ARNEL
Hey that was great. I really missed
your cooking.

REGINE ESPERANZA
I’m glad you liked it.

REGINE sits by ARNEL.

REGINE ESPERANZA
I really want to thank you for all
the hard work you did for me here.

REGINE reaches for ARNEL’S hand, she looks the palm over.
Then gets a confused look on her face.

REGINE ESPERANZA
I can’t believe you did all this so
quickly. Did anyone help you?

CUT TO:

INT. CLOSE UP OF ARNEL’S HAND

ARNEL’S hand is clean, smooth and unblemished. His nails are

even manicured.

ARNEL
Uhh. No babe. Did it all by myself.

CUT TO:

INT. SMALL HOUSE KITCHEN NIGHT

REGINE stares coldly at ARNEL.

ARNEL looks up at REGINE’S cold face.

ARNEL
What is it? Something wrong?

REGINE ESPERANZA
Nothing Arnel. It’s nothing. It’s
time for you to go, how’s your
head.

ARNEL
I think it’s somewhat better now. I
still have a bump on it.
19.

ARNEL goes to stand up then acts as if he is becoming dizzy

and he then falls back into his seat.

ARNEL
Maybe I should stay here for the
night. But if you think that’s a
bad Idea I can try to go.

He attempts to stand up and walk again and then acts like he

is going to faint.

REGINE runs over to catch him.

REGINE ESPERANZA
You can stay the night, but your
sleeping on the couch alright?

ARNEL looks up at her with soulful puppy dog eyes.

ARNEL
Alright. Thank you babe.

As REGINE physically escorts ARNEL to the couch in the living

room he looks away from her and wryly smirks.

CUT TO:

INT. SMALL HOUSE LIVING ROOM NIGHT

REGINE places ARNEL onto the couch and he lies down.

REGINE ESPERANZA
OK you rest here. I am going to
take a shower and then I will bring
you a blanket.

ARNEL
OK.

REGINE gets up and goes to her bedroom.

ARNEL’S eyes follow her. When she is out of sight he smirks

to himself.

CUT TO:

INT. SMALL HOUSE BEDROOM NIGHT

REGINE comes out of the shower wearing her robe and is

stopped solidly in her tracks by the sight before her.
20.

Laying on her bed is ARNEL shirtless and under her sheets. He

is propped up with a come hither look on his face.

REGINE becomes infuriated and lets out an audibly loud

response.

CUT TO:

EXT. GIANT TREE NIGHT

The KAPRE hearing the response from REGINE comes down from
his tree and quietly makes his way to her bedroom window.

He carefully peers into the window to see into her bedroom.

CUT TO:

INT. SMALL HOUSE BEDROOM NIGHT

Regine infuriated stands there in total frustration and rage.

REGINE ESPERANZA
What the hell are you doing Arnel!

ARNEL looking boyishly suave grins at REGINE.

ARNEL
Come on babe you know you still
want me. I can tell. The fire is
still there.

REGINE ESPERANZA
Fire? I’ll show you fire!

Regine grabs a figurine from her dresser and throws it at

ARNEL.

REGINE ESPERANZA
Get out Arnel! Now!

ARNEL ducks to avoid the figurine.

ARNEL
Babe! Stop. Just come to bed and
let’s work this out.

REGINE picks up another figurine.

REGINE ESPERANZA
I’m giving you to the count of
three to get out of my house Arnel!
21.

ARNEL
Babe don’t be unreasonable, we can
work this out.

REGINE ESPERANZA
I knew you couldn’t have changed.
1!

ARNEL
I have changed, what about
everything i did for you!

REGINE ESPERANZA
I still don’t believe you did
anything for me Arnel! 2!

ARNEL becomes nervous seeing REGINE begin to line up her next

throw.

ARNEL
I did this all for you babe,
believe me!

REGINE ESPERANZA
I never told you this Arnel but I
can always tell when you lie. You
never look me in the eyes when you
do. You can’t. It always gave you
away. Like when I asked you if you
slept with my batch mate. You
looked at my shoulder when you said
no!

ARNEL
What! Babe your crazy!

REGINE ESPERANZA
Your right I am crazy. Crazy to
think I loved you! That’s 3!

She throws the figurine barely missing his head, she reaches
for more figurines.

ARNEL grabs the sheet around him and runs for the door.

ARNEL
You need to cool down babe. Your
becoming irrational!

REGINE ESPERANZA
Irrational, you haven’t seen
irrational yet!
22.

REGINE chases ARNEL from the house.

She slams the door behind him leaving him outside on her
walkway with nothing more than a sheet covering him.

CUT TO:

EXT. SMALL HOUSE NIGHT

ARNEL is facing the door. He pounds on it.

ARNEL
Hey what about my clothes! I can’t
leave like this! Regine come on!

From behind ARNEL is hit with a blast of cigar smoke that

engulfs him.

He starts to cough and turns around gruffly.

ARNEL’s eyes grow wide in fear when he sees the KAPRE

standing behind him.

KAPRE
What’s wrong with your brain boy?
You need to learn some manners.

ARNEL screams.

CUT TO:

INT. SMALL HOUSE NIGHT

REGINE has ARNEL’S clothes gathered into her arms and is

storming to the front door. She opens the door and goes to
throw the clothes out thinking she is going to hit ARNEL but
she is stopped when she sees no one standing there.

She cautiously peers out looking for ARNEL.

She walks out still holding the clothes, her gaze finally
grabs something odd she walks over to the giant tree.

Her look of concern turns to amazement when she stops by the

tree and sees ARNEL wrapped like a cocoon in the sheet he was
wearing hanging from his mid drift from the lowest limb of
the tree.

She drops the cloths to the ground.

CUT TO:
23.

EXT. GIANT TREE NIGHT

The KAPRE tries to hide amidst his branches while he is

looking down to REGINE. He is smoking his giant cigar.

He inhales deeply and the end embers grow bright red. The ash
on the end of his cigar grows longer and pops off and then
begins to fall.

The KAPRE frantically tries to stop the ash from falling to

the ground.

He is unsuccessful and lets out a depressed sigh.

The ash travels downward like a leaf on the wind slowly to

the earth.

The ash lands partly onto REGINE’S head.

REGINE takes her hand and grabs the ash that has fallen onto
her. She looks at it intently having a flash back to the
other occasions that she has seen these ashes in her yard
after the work was done. She then looks up to the tree.

She gets a calm look about her as she scans the tree.

REGINE ESPERANZA
I know your up there. You can come
down now.

She waits for some kind of answer.

REGINE ESPERANZA
Please. Please come down and let me
see you.

REGINE’s eyes grow wide in wonderment as she visually follows

the KAPRE to the ground.

The KAPRE stands before REGINE like a child who has done
something wrong and is caught. His head is slumped down and
he is quiet.

REGINE looks at him, then looks to his hands. She walk to

him.

REGINE takes his hand. The KAPRE’s hand is speckled with

paint, the paint from her home.

REGINE looks astonished. She looks up to the KAPRE’S face.

24.

REGINE ESPERANZA
You! You did all this for me? Why?

The KAPRE looks deep into REGINE.

KAPRE
Because your special. Your kind to
everyone here. It was your kindness
woke me up. I saw that you had some
chores that needed to be done and
no time to do them. I only did what
needed to be done. Kindness like
yours should be rewarded.

REGINE looks up to ARNEL hanging from the tree.

KAPRE
I didn’t hurt him. Liar Boy
fainted. He has no honor. You know
you can do much better than this.

REGINE ESPERANZA
Picking the right guy for me is a
skill I don’t seem to have. It’s
always the same thing for me, you
meet someone and you think they are
perfect then everything changes and
they show the real person inside.
Sometimes I feel it’s better to be
alone.

KAPRE
Why would you say that? No one is
truly alone. You got friends don’t
ya? Family? Then one day you wake
up and you meet the right person
for you and then things all seem to
line up right in front of your
eyes. Just remember, not all
monsters look like monsters.

KAPRE looks up to ARNEL then back to REGINE.

REGINE gives a small laugh.

REGINE ESPERANZA
That’s a very wise thing to say. I
really want to thank you for
everything you have done for me.
25.

KAPRE
No need to thank me little lady, it
was no trouble. I’m glad I could
help ya.

ATE PAULINE walks up.

ATE PAULINE
Well I see your both getting along.

REGINE turns to ATE PAULINE.

REGINE ESPERANZA
I am so sorry Ate. I didn’t mean.

ATE PAULINE
Shhh dear it’s OK. Like I said I
had to keep my promise to Jun here.
OH! You haven’t been formally
introduced. This is Jun.

REGINE turns to the KAPRE and smiles.

REGINE ESPERANZA
Hi Jun.

The KAPRE smiles at REGINE.

FADE OUT.

FADE IN:

EXT. CAFE DAY

JONSON is walking out from the cafe headed for his car. He is
carrying his bag.

JONSON MENDOZA (V.O.)

Regine claims that the Kapre
sighting’s stopped right after she
met the man who eventually became
her husband. She said the Kapre
told her that his work was done and
she would now live a happy life.
But she says on occasion Jun leaves
them gifts.

JONSON enter his car and throws his bag into the seat next to
him. The bag opens and one of the strange fruits rolls out on
the seat.
