STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

‘Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow’ – This simple
yet powerful statement had an impact on me from a very longtime. Learning new things always
fascinates me and especially those that involve logic in it. Right from my childhood, I had strong
predilection towards computers and I always wanted to know the functionality of several
computer applications like calculator or computer game. This fondness made me take up
Computer Science as my major in [Link]. I used to discuss these kinds of queries with my
professors or seniors to know the intricate aspects. Then I took a firm decision to explore the
depths by pursuing masters in the field of computer science.
When I was a young child, I was captivated by the commands used in ‘LOGO’, ‘BASIC’
programming languages. With the emergence of new programming languages like C, C++, I
came across different syntactical patterns with the continuance of logic. I was always inclined
towards learning mathematics and science which were my strength and made me acquire a
position in the list of top 3 students in my school, Narayana e-techno High School, with a
percentage of 93.16.
Due to the fondness with respect to logic, math and science, I opted MPC (Maths,
Physics, Chemistry) group and I obtained 96.8% in my 11 th and 12th grades. This score helped
me to attain my target branch- Computer Science in a university which I look up to. GITAM
UNIVERSITY is the place that made me excel in several computer science subjects with a
CGPA of 9.01. During my B. Tech, I was introduced to several new booming technologies like
Cloud Computing, Data Analytics, Robotics and Automation which made me proceed to work
for a MNC in the same direction and then to chase my ambition of masters.
For my summer internship, I did a project in HCL-TECHNOLOGIES, a reputed
company, where we worked as a team consisting of 4 members to develop a website that would
help the placement coordinator to manage the campus placements in a college. We used Java,
PHP to build it. With my growing interest to learn different programming languages, I tried to do
my final year project (Authentication of Messages in MANETS using NS2) using TOOL
COMMAND LANGUAGE – C++ and was successful in completing it with the guidance of
professors. I was amazed to view the graphical projection of nodes and their movements with the
changes in the codes. Minimizing the average throughput time was a challenge which we solved
by improvising the code. I, being appointed as the Team Lead, to manage a team of four
members provided me a chance to strengthen my leadership skills. The project also included
Authentication for which I had to assimilate the concepts of Cryptography.
Besides academics, I also involved in several extra-curricular activities. I played a crucial
role in the field of anchoring in a student-based organization - Kalakriti. I enjoyed interacting
with people and working as a team in order to make events successful. I participated in various
hackathons and coding competitions where I had to compete with students of other colleges. I
acquired good positions in them and this boosted up my confidence regarding my ability to code.
After I completed my undergraduate program, I was selected by one of the leading
MNC’s in India, TATA Consultancy Services Limited. During my Initial Learning
Program(ILP), I was chosen to coordinate with a team to develop an Agile project in Java that
would help the company in planning the curriculum for trainees across TCS. I was very curious
to develop my first real-time project and came to know the benefits of a well-organized team. I
was also one among the 15 students who were selected for a training program conducted by
PayPal and we were trained on technologies like Angular JS, Mongo DB. By the end of ILP
training, I received my performance rating of 5, the highest.
After completion of my ILP, I was interviewed and selected by AIG, an American
Insurance Company in the US. I thoroughly contributed to accomplish my role as Assistant
System Engineer and I got to learn new tool like PowerShell. I automated several desktop and
server level applications using PowerShell and Python scripts. I imbibed the process of SDLC
(Software Development Life Cycle) to develop the scripts starting from requirement gathering to
deployment. TCS never stood back in recognizing the new talent and always applauded me for
my hard work. I was being awarded with an annual rating of 5, the highest, after my fulfillment
of one year. I also completed several courses related to Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence
in Fresco Play designed by TCS.
Despite of having a good job in a well esteemed company, I felt the time has come to
achieve my long-term goal. So, I decided to progress my career as well as my dream to pursue
master’s in Computer Science and a prominent university like yours will definitely be a boon to
fulfill my aim. I have gone through your website and enthralled by the infrastructure, courses,
faculty and the kind of facilities provided to the students for Computer Science Engineering
program. I firmly believe that I can ameliorate in theoretical as well as practical fields and
contribute on a positive note, if I get an opportunity to study in your university. Apart from
study, the kind of international exposure I can acquire and the way it is going to transform me to
succeed in the future is also a key factor in choosing your university. I believe that my hunger
and zeal to perform well will definitely put me among the best students of your university.
Thus, I sincerely put forth my gratitude for providing me this opportunity to express
myself and I truly hope I get a consenting response from your university.
