How did I choose my topic?


I am fond of art and murals, so this topic really caught my eye. Not only that, but murals are
cool, and quite interesting as well. Murals just add color and culture to a dull landscape, such as
El Paso. However, I didn’t know that murals truly represented something deeper than a little bit
of street art. There is so much history and cultural representation behind these murals, so I
undoubtedly had to choose this topic.
How did I conduct my research?
My research entirely involved online articles and interviews. First, I tried finding websites
directly from the authors, however, that proved to be difficult. After having a little chat with my
teacher, I was able to find plenty of primary sources, as I even found a video or two of news
interviews, providing the exact reason the murals were made.
Why did I choose my category and how did I create my project?
I chose to make a website because I enjoy using technology, and this just ups that ante. I started
by choosing the platform to make the website on. I found that most, if not all, online website
creators require a form of monthly subscription. Fortunately, Weebly allows you to create your
very own website for the price of $0. This allows me to save money while creating a very
modern and nice website. Not only that. I can put in picture and document slideshows, which is
helpful for my process paper and my actual pictures. It also provides templates, so I don't have to
make the entire presentation, and it overall makes the creation process easier and faster.
What is the historical argument of my project?
The historical argument of my project is how murals are the best representations of the culture of
El Paso. I chose this argument because it not only piqued my interest, but it also truly represents
the topic that I chose: murals. I believe that my argument is true because murals are not only
tasteful, but representative as well.
How does my topic relate to the theme?
My topic relates to the theme because it involves the culture and history of El Paso in a special
art form. Many of the murals in El Paso represent the historical and cultural significance of the
city, and with the theme being about what historical event affects the culture and history of
Texas, I think this fits outstandingly well. I say this because murals are basically what El Paso is,
as most of the city is based on Mexico. With Mexico practically being the birthplace of murals
like these, it really shows in El Paso.
