Slide 1
"Good [morning/afternoon], everyone. My name is Ronnie Dacuma, and I would like to thank you for joining me today as
I present my title defence.
This proposal aims to address a common problem faced by our AMA Cebu campus community—lost and found items. We
all know how frustrating it can be to misplace something important, or to find something and not know where to report it.
That's why I'm excited to share with you our solution which is….
Slide 2
Our project: 'Lost & Found Guardian, a web application designed for efficient reporting and retrieval of lost and found
items. It’s designed to streamline the process of reporting lost items and retrieving them, providing a simple and efficient
solution to a common problem on our campus.
Slide 3
"In this defence for 'Lost & Found Guardian,' I'll cover the following topics: subject matter of the project, then we will
identify the actual problem we're facing, importance of study, our statement of problem. We'll then explore our research
methodology and conceptual framework. We'll finish by providing refrences for our study. So let's get started!"
Slide 4
"The 'Lost & Found Guardian' is designed to address the inefficiencies in our current lost and found system at AMA Cebu
Campus. This web-based application aims to streamline the process by allowing students, faculty, and staff to report lost
items and search for found ones through an intuitive online platform. The ultimate goal is to make the entire process
faster, more reliable, and less stressful."
Slide 5
Currently, the process of finding lost items on our campus is outdated and inefficient. Most people rely on word-of-mouth
or physical bulletin boards, which are slow and often unreliable. This leads to a high number of unclaimed items and
unnecessary stress for those who have lost something. The 'Lost & Found Guardian' aims to solve this problem by
providing a central, easy-to-use platform where people can report and retrieve lost items.
Slide 6
The importance of this study lies in its ability to improve the efficiency of our lost and found process. By implementing a
web-based solution, we can expect quicker reporting and retrieval, leading to less stress and more reclaimed items. Our
thesis statement is: 'A web-based application for lost and found reporting will enhance the efficiency of item recovery and
improve overall satisfaction among the AMA Cebu Campus community.
Slide 7
The central problem to be addressed is the inefficiency in the current system of reporting and retrieving lost items on
campus. To better understand and solve this problem, we formulated the following research questions:
1. How will the implementation of a web-based lost and found application improve the efficiency of item
recovery?
2. What will be the user satisfaction levels with the new system compared to traditional methods?
3. What features will be most valued by users in a lost and found web application?
These questions will guide our study and help us create an effective solution.
Slide 8
Our research methodology involves a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data. This
comprehensive approach allows us to gather a wide range of insights and feedback.
The development process follows Agile methodology, which emphasizes iterative development and continuous feedback.
The project team includes web developers, a project manager, and a quality assurance specialist, ensuring that the
application is built to meet user needs and industry standards.
Quantitative data will be collected through surveys to measure user satisfaction before and after the implementation of the
web application. These surveys will be distributed to a sample of students and staff who will use the system.
Qualitative data will be gathered through focus groups to understand user feedback and suggestions for further
improvements. This approach allows us to gain a deeper understanding of user experiences and identify areas for
enhancement.
Slide 9
Slide 10
"The conceptual framework for this project shows the relationship between implementing the web application and the
expected outcomes. Here's how the framework breaks down:
 Inputs: User feedback, application features, and development resources.
 Process: Agile development, testing, and feedback loops.
 Outputs: Improved reporting and retrieval efficiency, enhanced user satisfaction.
This framework helps us stay on track as we develop and refine our solution.

I'd like to thank everyone for their time and attention during this presentation. If you have any questions or feedback about
the 'Lost & Found Guardian,' I would be happy to discuss them with you. Thank you again for joining me today.

Common questions

The introduction of a web-based solution can enhance user satisfaction by enabling faster reporting and retrieval of lost items, reducing stress, and increasing the chances of item recovery. By providing a centralized, easy-to-use platform, the application can offer a more efficient and less frustrating experience compared to traditional methods .

The mixed-methods approach benefits development by offering a comprehensive overview of the system's effectiveness and user experiences. Quantitative surveys provide measurable satisfaction metrics, while qualitative focus groups give detailed insights into user preferences and issues, facilitating a well-rounded understanding and enabling targeted improvements to the application .

Anticipated challenges include user resistance to adopting new technology and ensuring the application's accessibility and ease of use. These can be addressed by providing ample training, creating an intuitive user interface, and establishing clear communication channels to gather user feedback and resolve issues promptly .

The current lost and found system at AMA Cebu relies heavily on word-of-mouth and physical bulletin boards, leading to slow and unreliable item recovery, a high number of unclaimed items, and unnecessary stress for those who have lost something. The 'Lost & Found Guardian' web application intends to address these inefficiencies by streamlining the reporting and retrieval process through an intuitive online platform, allowing for quicker and more reliable item recovery .

A mixed-methods approach combining quantitative and qualitative data is employed. Quantitative data is gathered through pre- and post-implementation surveys to measure user satisfaction, while qualitative data is collected via focus groups for deeper user insights. The Agile methodology facilitates iterative development and continuous feedback, ensuring the application meets user needs and industry standards .

User feedback is crucial as it directly informs the development of features that meet user needs and preferences, ensuring the application is user-friendly and effective. Continuous feedback loops allow for timely updates and refinements, directly impacting user satisfaction and the application's success .

Using Agile methodology allows for iterative development, frequent testing, and continuous feedback incorporation, which contributes to building a user-centric application. This approach ensures ongoing adjustments based on real-time user data, enhancing the application's functionality and alignment with user needs and expectations .

Key features most valued by users include the platform's accessibility, ease of use, and centralized reporting system. These features enable quick reporting and retrieval, significantly reducing the stress associated with lost items, thus making the application favorable for regular use by the campus community .

The conceptual framework includes inputs (user feedback, application features, development resources), processes (Agile development, testing, feedback loops), and outputs (improved reporting and retrieval efficiency, enhanced user satisfaction). This framework helps maintain focus and structure throughout development by clearly delineating each component's role in achieving the desired outcomes .

The project references key studies, such as those by Bataineh (2015) and Jiang et al. (2019), which provide foundational insights into effective system design and usability. These references guide research and development in addressing specific user needs and leveraging best practices for improving system reliability and user satisfaction .
