CHAPTER -1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 About the Company
India won't ever have a thriving economy if its financial system is
left unfixed. The financial sector in India needs to be open to the
public and adaptable enough to take into account shifting
technology trends as well as internal and external influences. Over
the past thirty years, India's financial sector has advanced
significantly. The enormity of it is what truly gets noticed. It's no
longer exclusive for capital city hipsters in India. Indeed, even the
most isolated regions of India are served by the financial system.
This is one of the primary causes of India's economic growth. Ever
since 14 of the country's leading commercial banks were
nationalised in 1969, Indian banks have profited greatly from the
government's steady hand.. There was a time when waiting in line
to bet or withdraw your money from the bank could take hours.
Now he has a choice. In the past, the fastest possible transfer time
between banks was two days, but those times have passed. It's as
easy as typing a message or clicking a mouse button. Money is the
most important factor in today's society. India's first bank was
established in 1786 and was successful despite its conservatism.
From 1786 to today, the Indian financial sector has gone through
5
three distinct phases of development.
They are as mentioned below :-
The Timeframe of the Development of Indian Banks, 1786–1969
In India, the banking industry had not been changed since it had
been nationalised prior to 1991.
The year 1991 marked the beginning of a new period of expansion
for the banking and financial sector in India.
Due to the projected continued rapid development of the Indian
economy, particularly its service sector, high demand is expected
for banking services, particularly retail banking, mortgages and
investment services. This is expected to lead to a large supply of
banking services. In this regard, India can expect as many mergers
and acquisitions, acquisitions and assets as China.
India currently has 88 Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs),
including 28 Public Sector Banks (in which the Government of India
has a stake), 29 Private banks (in which the Government of India
has no interest; they can be listed and traded) and 31 foreign
banks. They have a system of more than 53,000 branches,
including 17,000 ATMs. Rating agency ICRA Limited found that
public sector banks along with private banks. and foreign banks
control more than 75 percent of total banking sector assetsDue to

FUNCTIONS
Due to the breadth and depth of the bank's offerings, Punjab
National Bank customers have access to a wide range of financial
services. Some of these services include corporate and private
banking, industrial and agricultural finance, trade finance and
international banking. These are just a few examples of
competencies within the banking category. This is possible
because the bank has branches in almost all major centers across
the country. As a direct result of this development, it is now
8
significantly easier for customers to conduct financial transactions
almost anywhere in the United States. The bank serves a wide
variety of clients including Indian conglomerates, medium and
small industrial units, exporters, overseas Indian and foreign firms,
to name a few of the many client groups that the bank serves. The
bank has clients from many different walks of life. It was very easy
for the bank to build beneficial relationships with the commercial
and industrial sectors due to its extensive presence in the
community and its vast resource base. These factors contributed to
the bank's success. In other words, the bank managed to establish
extensive connections with the commercial and industrial sectors of
the economy. Thanks to its network of 4,540 branches and 421
extension points, Punjab National Bank is able to provide financial
services to more than 3.5 million customers located in different
regions of the country. It is the state financial institution of the
country that offers the best possible service to its customers and is
also the easiest to contact. This is a direct consequence of being
state owned.
In the meanwhile, the bank has been mindful of its social
responsibilities by providing monetary aid for agriculture as well as
activities that are tied in some way to agriculture. To put it another
way, this support has been beneficial to the agricultural sector. In
addition to this, the bank has been providing monetary help to
businesses that fall on the smaller end of the range. Depending on
9
the specifics of the situation, this assistance may come in the form
of either direct or indirect assistance (SSI). The bank has built 31
specialised branches that are only focused on the provision of
financial assistance to businesses who are involved in industries
on a smaller scale. These offices are entirely dedicated to this area
of banking. The provision of help of this sort is the primary focus of
these branches. This is because the bank recognises the
relevance of smaller enterprises and has done so because it has
established these branches. The reason for this recognition is
because the bank has developed these branches. This is due to
the fact that the bank recognises the significance of being able to
support smaller businesses. The bank has made significant
headway toward increasing the degree to which computerization is
used in its operations in order to maintain its relevance in light of
the rapid pace at which technological advancement is taking place
and to better satisfy the requirements of its customers in terms of
both promptness and efficiency. In addition, the bank has made
these advancements in order to better satisfy the requirements of
its customers in terms of both promptness and efficiency. In
addition, the bank has implemented these technological
developments in order to better serve the expectations of its clients
in terms of promptness as well as efficiency. In addition, these
technical advancements have been used by the bank in order to
better meet the demands of its customers in terms of both
promptness and efficiency. In addition, the bank has implemented
