CONSTRUCTION METHODS
OUTLINE OF NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION

1.0 INTRODUCTION

The project calls for the upgrading/improvement of Manila North Road(MNR),(Jct.

Bangag-Mabanguc-Paruddun Section), Aparri, cagayn. A road concreting project with
an approved budget contract of about Php20,265,000.00 and with a contract duration
of 300 calendar days.

2.0 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CONTRACT WORKS

The general features of the project are the surplus common excavation, foundation fill,
embankment from cut, aggregate sub-base course, aggregate base course, Portland
cement concrete pavement(0.23m thick), reinforcing steel bars(slope protection),
concrete class “A” (slope protection), installation of 36” diameter RCCP, project
billboard, field camps, progress photographs & health and safety program.

3.0 CONSTRUCTION METHODS AND PROCEDURES

3.1 Methodology or General Approach

After the issuance of Notice To Proceed(NTP), the first thing to do is mobilized

all equipment as well as materials needed for the prosecution of the project.
On the first 5 Calendar days, it’s the construction of the Temporary bankhouse
and storage/bodega shall be undertaken for the use of manpower, safekeeping
of materials and serve as our field office. The company will also provide
medicines, hard hats, raincoats and boots for the construction safety program.

To start with, coordinate with the Government Project Engineer on the

schedule of the joint survey and stake out of the works and shall commence as
soon as the team is ready. The team shall join the survey party and extract
samples of all materials to be incorporated and have it tested to accredited
testing laboratory prior to the execution of the works or before incorporating in
the works. We shall coordinate to the project engineer and consultants for the
location of the Field Camp/Office and constructed according to plans and
specifications thereby furnish all facilities required. Provision of warning signs
shall be provided as part of our contract during the start of the construction to
ensure the public safety of the motorists as well as the traveling public.

Embankment (from cut or from other source) materials will be used for
backfilling. It will be compacted layer by layer using vibratory roller and water
truck.

Dump trucks shall deliver aggregates sub-base course, base course and slack
it in mounts along the stretch of road under construction. Materials shall be
spread by a road grader evenly at a thickness of at least 0.20m loose per
layer, watering and compacting by road roller, stop by strip several times. A
field density test shall be conducted by the material engineer to check the
compaction and prepare test results according to schedule of materials
requirements. This shall be done repeatedly until thickness retackled the
design grade line for this item.

The same construction procedure is adopted for aggregate base course which
follow next the preceding item. After completing item 102-2, 103-3, 104-1,
200, 201, the concrete paving works (PCCP plain with a thickness of 0.23m)
shall be next. Aggregates to be used must be clean, properly graded and free
from any foreign materials. A beam sample shall be extracted every pouring
for materials testing requirements. Curing of concrete is within 28th days. We
shall submit pouring request for every operation as in standard form for
approval of the Project Engineer. Most of all, we shall seek the technical
assistance of the site engineer on any matter related thereto for proper
prosecution of the project.

Progress photographs of every activity/operation shall be taken for proper

documentation.

QAU assessment and Final inspection by the DPWH-Regional Office shall be

done before demobilization of the equipment and manpower.

3.2 Program of Work

Construction schedule, progress bar schedule shall be based on the submitted

schedule of activities.

3.3 Financial Program

Cash flow schedules shall be based on the construction schedule of activities

and bar chart.

The Project Engineer coordinates surveys and ensures schedules are met. They approve pouring requests and provide technical assistance during construction. They also oversee the field density tests and material testing, maintaining the project's adherence to design and safety standards .

Financial planning includes cash flow schedules aligned with the construction schedule. Progress is tracked using a bar chart and progress bar schedule, ensuring alignment with the overall schedule of activities .

Safety measures for the project include providing medicines, hard hats, raincoats, and boots to workers. Warning signs are also to be installed at the start of the construction to ensure the safety of motorists and the traveling public. The program highlights the importance of safety in all phases and the construction of a field office supports safety protocols .

The document outlines that materials are to be sampled and tested by an accredited laboratory before incorporation into the works. Regular field density tests are performed to ensure compaction meets design specifications. Additionally, for concrete works, beam samples are extracted with every pour for material testing. Each operation requires a pouring request and technical assistance is sought from the site engineer for technical matters, while progress photographs document activities .

The project document emphasizes public safety and environmental considerations by requiring warning signs to protect motorists and the public. It mandates proper storage of materials and safe operating procedures, including the use of safety gears for workers .

The Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) must be placed with a thickness of 0.23m. Quality is ensured by using clean, properly graded aggregates free from foreign materials. Beam samples are extracted during each pour for testing purposes. Concrete curing is done over 28 days, and pouring requests are submitted per operation for approval. Site engineers assist technically to maintain quality .

The key phases involved in the upgrading and improvement of the Manila North Road include the mobilization of equipment and construction of temporary facilities, coordination with the project engineer for surveys, extraction and testing of materials, and preparation of safety measures. The construction process involves excavation, filling, compaction, and concrete paving. Regular field density tests and quality assessments ensure compliance with design specifications before project completion .

The field camp/office serves multiple roles: it acts as a base of operations for coordinating activities, a secure storage area for materials, and a point for managing the construction safety program. It ensures that activities are executed according to plans and specifications, contributing to project efficiency .

Progress is documented through progress photographs of each activity. These photographs serve as a record for QAU assessments and the final inspection by the DPWH-Regional Office. A structured program of work and regular submissions for engineer approval ensure thorough documentation and accountability .

The embankment phase involves using materials from cuts or other sources for backfilling. These materials are compacted in layers using vibratory rollers and water trucks to achieve required density. Regular field density tests are conducted to confirm compliance with compaction specifications .
