9. I have reviewed this evaluation with the student.

Yes

Additional Comment: Veronica is feeling better about the semester with completing competencies. She feels her application of planning concepts have
improved and has worked on increasing communication with the mentor and planners. She feels juggling clinic and school is going well. The school schedule
is intense as the semester is coming to a close.
10. Additional Comments:

Veronica completed 5 comps to date (fusion, 3 field pelvis with wedge, 4f pelvis (with FiF), electron beam plan) and will begin training on palliative treatments
next. She has observed monthly QA and will plan to observe daily warm-up QA for Lianc, CT Simulator, and monthly CT Sim before the end of the semester.
She is saving brachytherapy and treatment planning system shadowing for the summer semester. In clinic practice outside of the development training
system, she's completed 5 clinical fusions, 6 finalization cases, 2 3D rectum, and 3 electron beam plans. She feels like she has progressed greatly in the past
few weeks. She will reflect on her comps and apply it forward. I've advised picking up more cases in the clinic to keep practicing the full experience of
treatment planning from sim to treatment.

Balancing clinic and academic responsibilities is crucial to a student's performance in a dosimetry program. Effective management of these responsibilities ensures that students can apply their academic learning in clinical settings while gaining practical experience. Veronica's reflections in the evaluation highlight her improved handling of both aspects, indicating that when students manage this balance well, they feel more competent and engaged, which is essential for success in a rigorous educational program .

The combination of theoretical understanding and practical application forms the foundation for a successful dosimetry career as it enables students to translate their academic knowledge into real-world scenarios. Theoretical knowledge provides the scientific basis for dosimetry, while practical application in clinical settings allows students to apply this knowledge in designing and executing treatment plans. In the clinical evaluations, students exhibited competence in core physics and computer skills, suggesting they are equipped to tackle complex problems in professional settings .

A student's ability to organize and prioritize tasks significantly influences their proficiency in completing dosimetry requirements because it allows them to manage time and resources efficiently. Prioritizing tasks ensures that critical dosimetry duties are completed accurately and promptly, contributing to the smooth operation of clinical workflows. The evaluation notes that students meet expectations in organizing duties, which suggests that they have developed effective strategies to manage their responsibilities in a demanding clinical environment .

Dependability in a clinical setting is closely tied to a student's punctuality and adherence to scheduling and attendance requirements. Dependable students arrive promptly as scheduled and manage their time effectively, including scheduling breaks and adhering to attendance standards. This reliability ensures that clinical activities proceed smoothly and that students are adequately present to learn from and contribute to their clinical environments .

Effective communication skills are critical in clinical dosimetry, as students must use verbal communication skills effectively when consulting and reviewing plans with physicians. This ensures that misunderstandings are minimized and that treatment plans are clear, which is crucial for the accurate and efficient delivery of dosimetric treatment. For example, in the clinical evaluation, the students met expectations in using effective verbal communication during plan consultations, which implies that they are able to convey complex information in a manner that supports the physician's ability to make informed decisions .

The application of knowledge in physics and computer usage is fundamental for a dosimetry student to create effective treatment plans. A solid understanding of physics concepts allows students to grasp how radiation interacts with tissues, which is crucial for accurate treatment planning. Effective computer skills enable students to use treatment planning software to translate theoretical knowledge into practical outcomes. Students in the evaluation demonstrated a basic understanding of these skills, suggesting they are equipped to construct treatment plans in accordance with prescriptions, indicative of their growing proficiency .

The accuracy of a medical dosimetry student in entering information into chart systems is critical for patient safety. Accurate entry ensures that treatment plans are implemented correctly, reducing the risk of errors that could harm patients. In the evaluations, students met expectations for accuracy in chart entries, reflecting their competence in maintaining meticulous records, which directly impacts treatment efficacy and patient safety .

Effective verbal communication with medical staff significantly enhances a student's learning experience in a clinical setting by facilitating the exchange of information and feedback. It enables students to clarify doubts, understand procedural nuances, and integrate their learning with practical experiences. In the evaluation, the students demonstrated effective communication skills with staff, which suggests that they are able to engage meaningfully with experienced practitioners, thereby enriching their educational experience .

Dosimetry students can employ several strategies to reflect on and improve their clinical competencies, such as maintaining reflective journals to document daily experiences, engaging in feedback sessions with mentors to gain insights into areas of improvement, and setting specific, measurable goals to track their progress over time. Veronica's comments about her growing confidence and progress through regular assessments and mentorship suggest that structured reflection and feedback are key strategies in enhancing competencies .

Safety checks and procedure verification play a crucial role in maintaining the quality of education in medical dosimetry programs as they ensure that students adhere to high standards of accuracy and safety in practical applications. Double-checking student work, such as calculations and treatment plans, with professionals like dosimetrists or physicists instills a culture of accuracy and responsibility. Meeting expectations in these areas reflects the program's focus on preventing errors and fostering a learning environment where safety is prioritized .
