How do I use the ECG/EKG Simulator?

Purpose
Usage instructions for the ECG simulator.
Student instructions:
Information

• Have students have clean hands before use.


• Do not to mark the simulator with markers or other tools.
• Palpating incorrectly with fingernails may damage the simulator.
• The simulator is designed for palpating rib landmarks to place the v1-v6 electrodes properly.
• The ECG Simulator is screen casting compatible. See your IT department for hardware and connections.

Access student menu


1. Power up the tablet.

2. Connect the simulator to the tablet via the USB cord.

3. Open the ECG Simulator by tapping the icon on the tablet


screen and allow one minute to establish the connection.

4. Once connected, if you see a pop-up message on the screen. Tap the checkbox and then tap OK.

5. The Student Menu should appear showing the following screen:

Practice mode
1. Tap the PRACTICE button to enter practice mode.

2. Decide which lead setup you will be performing and connect the appropriate leads to the simulator.

3. Tap the START


button on the
lead setup you
are practicing.

NOTE: The surface can be easily marked. Avoid sharp items, such as fingernails, when palpating.
4. If a lead is in the
wrong location,
the symbol on
the screen will
be red. If the
lead is not on the
simulator, the
symbol for that
lead will be gray.

5. Once all leads are in the correct location, all lead


symbols will turn green. Choose to practice the
rhythms in either sequential or random order

6. The default practice mode view below shows the rhythm on the main screen and the sequence list on
the left-hand side.

7. Tap the X next to Sequence to close the sequence list. To reopen the sequence list, tap the three bars
on the upper left-hand of the screen.

8. Tap the slider next to "Description" to open or close the description window.

9. To navigate between sequences, either tap on a new sequence from the sequence list on the left-hand
side of the screen or use the PREVIOUS and NEXT buttons on the bottom right-hand side of the screen.

10. To exit practice mode, tap the left arrow in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

Assessment mode
1. Tap the ASSESSMENT button to enter assessment mode.

2. Navigate through the sequences using the PREVIOUS and NEXT buttons.

3. Tap FINISH once you have completed identifying all of the sequences.

4. Tap BACK TO HOME SCREEN to exit the assessment mode.
