Mutli Modal
A multimodal system in UI/UX refers to an interface that allows users to interact
through multiple modes of input and output. These modes can include
Visual: Users interact with graphical elements, such as buttons, menus, and
images
Auditory: Users receive feedback through sound, such as notifications or voice
prompts
Tactile: Users interact through touch, such as tapping, swiping, or using gestures
on touchscreens
Gestural: Users interact through physical gestures, such as waving or pointing with
a motion controller
Voice: Users interact with the system using spoken commands or queries.
What are we working on?
We are redesigning our college foodcourt app (SmartQ). This project aims to
streamline the food ordering process, making it quicker, convenient and more user
friendly. The new app will offer features like mobile browsing of men us, seamless
order placement, and real-time order tracking, allowing students to skip the lines and
focus on enjoying their meals.
Problem Statements
The current user interface (UI) of our food ordering and browsing app lacks
intuitive design and efficient navigation, resulting in user frustration and
decreased engagement. Users find it challenging to discover new restaurants,
browse menu items, and place orders seamlessly. Additionally, the app's UI fails
to provide a personalized and engaging experience, hindering user retention and
satisfaction. To address these issues and enhance user experience, we aim to
redesign the app's UI to prioritize intuitive navigation, personalized
recommendations, and streamlined order placement processes. Furthermore in
the prioritizations sections we have mentioned specific problems we have faced
in the app’s UI and arranged them into three different categories.

Scenario
A student has only 20 minutes to order food and dine in because she has to be
back in class, therefore she goes to the foodcourt and orders food for herself.
Task Breakdown
We did a breakdown of the task into
action steps which will be taken to
accomplish the goal/scenario.

Insights
Of Task Breakdown and Task Flow
To assess the usability of SmartQ interface in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, safety,
utility, ease of learning, and ease of remembering, we conducted an analysis of
individual task screens. For this, we employed the following two methods:
Firstly, we individually used the app and analyzed its performance against these
usability measures and then presented our findings to each other, discussing how
well the app aligned with each criterion.
Secondly, we conducted a competitive analysis with similar apps to identify areas
where SmartQ excels and areas where it falls short.
Prioritisation
We chose which issues to address by sorting them into three
categories: the most important, the average, and the least important.
On the homepage, the only option you see is “dine in”, which is the only option the customer can click on.
User might find trouble with the “scan and use” method of the app, since sometimes the camera might be not working or the lighting of the room might be
too bright or too dark to capture the scanning code
The app only allows the customer to pay online and no cash, which is not everybody's cup of tea
Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian foods are not properly arranged in the app, and the Vegan option shouldn’t be there’s no content in that section
The filter option does not have any other variation other than the obvious which is visible in the page itself (something like price, spice etc.
The food items or categorized or sorted in the places where they belong, for examples: breakfast, snacks, dinner and lunch
In the feed of the app, the “Cafe buddy option” is a customer service, in which they’ve offered only two mobile numbers which might not be the best way
for a customer to report/address a problem
When you click on the “ info” option on the food item, there is only a nutrional chart available, and nothing else, even in some dishes the charts are blank.
