Grade 1 First Quarter Accomplishments
Implementing the Alternative Learning System (ALS) alongside formal basic education ensures that learning interventions begin simultaneously with the regular curriculum, providing continuity and comprehensive educational coverage for all students. It supports non-traditional learners and those needing different educational pathways.
The key objectives outlined for the Loreto-Santos Lanzanas Central School during the first quarter of the school year 2023-2024 included promoting and supporting the school in the implementation of programs and projects, improving Grade 1 pupils’ learning achievement in literacy and numeracy, and enumerating the accomplishments for Grade 1.
Measures for physical development included maintaining the cleanliness of classrooms and assigned areas, educating learners about garbage segregation, and initiating classroom projects. Also, plans were made to potentially construct two new classrooms to alleviate space issues.
The school recognized the importance of emotional and mental readiness among teachers due to limited vacation time and aimed to support them through preparatory programs, inclusive of engaging in national readiness initiatives like Brigada Eskwela, which can boost morale and readiness. Emphasis was placed on collaborative planning to mitigate work-related stress.
The school involved parents by conducting homeroom PTA meetings, holding elections for PTA officers, organizing meetings with parents, receiving donations, and participating in the 1st General PTA Meeting.
The school aimed to develop its teachers by having them participate in Brigada Eskwela 2023 and Oplan Balik Eskwela, conduct various assessments such as CRLA and RMA, prepare school forms and daily lesson logs, conduct remedial interventions in reading and writing, assess learners’ progress, and participate in the World Teachers Day Celebration.
Strategies for assessing academic progress included conducting CRLA, RMA, first quarter assessments, and administering a review of literacy and numeracy achievements. The school also profiled learners’ reading status and conducted deliberations of academic awardees, highlighting a structured approach to track and support student growth.
The school faced challenges such as classroom shortages, difficulties in disciplining pupils, and understanding different learning challenges among pupils. A proposed solution was to construct two additional classrooms to accommodate Grade 1 pupils and improve the learning environment.
Classroom officers were elected and inducted to play leadership roles in school activities. They helped in organizing and maintaining classroom culture, participated in school governance, and contributed towards implementing classroom and school projects, thus fostering a sense of responsibility and leadership among the pupils.
The school prepared by aiming to enhance teacher preparedness, both emotionally and mentally, due to the limited vacation time. It engaged in pre-year organization including participation in Brigada Eskwela and Oplan Balik Eskwela, and focused on setting up a conducive learning environment through extensive teacher planning and school readiness programs.
