Eco-Friendly Concrete from Recycled Glass

The document discusses the environmental impact of glass pollution, highlighting that a single glass bottle can take a million years to decompose and that recycling can lead to market saturation and reduced demand. Researchers aim to create eco-friendly concrete using crushed glass to reduce landfill waste and pollution. The goal is to produce in-demand construction materials while promoting environmental conservation by breaking the cycle of glass waste.

INTRODUCTION

Glass is one of the major contributors of pollution; twenty – percent in air and 50% in water (US-DENR,
2018),thus a single discarded glass bottle in a landfill can take a million years to breakdown.
Also, recycling glass in a common way can lead a serious problem in glass industry, A recent study (GFCC,
2019.) shows that markets flooded with recyclable material made from glass like; magnifying glass, windows,
knobs, and other common product that has a competitive competitor in making this things from high- end
materials , causes prices to drop and leading to less demand, affecting many company-making glass.
But in creating unique yet use-full materials from it, will stop the simultaneously on going glass – trash –
recycle – trash process, and can cause help in the glass industry, in environment, by knowing that it can
decrease numbers of pollution from this type of materials
Based on the recent study of Recycle Across America, there are more than Twenty-eight million glass bottle
and jars ends up in landfills every year – that is the equivalent of filling up two Empire State Building every 3-
weeks.
As the researchers will use broken glass from different materials at landfills to make a fine sand by crashing and
filtering them to make a same durable low-cost concrete bricks that is created to lessen the glass pollution by
reusing them as an ingredient to make an in-demand material.
The researchers was intended to; (1) create a product that is nowadays in- demand and eco-friendly, the
researchers are going to create an Eco- Friendly Concrete, (2) changing the current sand material used in
making bricks by (3) creating a more healthy sand made out by crushing and fining glass.

RATIONALE
The researches intended to make a unique and in-demand product like: concrete, hallow blocks, and particularly
eco – bricks, that can break the cycle of glass- trash- recycle – trash process, making this product reusable and
useful with the resource materials, and efficient in conserving environment by decreasing glass- waste pollution
in air and water bodies.
