Module MIS10090: Data Analysis for Decision Making

Week 8

Tutorial Questions: Sampling

Question 1. Sampling Distribution of the Sample Mean

Based on the Week8_Tutorial_Exercises.xlsx file Q1 spreadsheet, assuming sampling with

replacement, please:

a) Obtain the sampling distribution of the sample mean for samples of size 2
b) Obtain the mean of the sampling distribution of the sample mean for samples of size 2
c) Obtain the standard deviation of the sampling distribution of the sample mean for samples
of size 2

Question 2. Probabilities of the t-distribution

Based on the Week8_Tutorial_Exercises.xlsx file Q2 spreadsheet, using the NCST and the [Link]
formula in Excel, find the probability that:

a) t is less than 1.5

b) t is greater than 2.7
c) t is between 1.3 and 2.6

when the sample size (n) is either (i) 13 or (ii) 15 or (iii) 20.

Question 3. Finding values of the t-distribution

Based on the Week8_Tutorial_Exercises.xlsx file Q3 spreadsheet, using the NCST and the [Link]
formula in Excel, find the t-value:

a) whose probability to the left is 0.25

b) whose probability to the right is 0.005

when the sample size (n) is either (i) 13 or (ii) 15 or (iii) 20.
