2.0 CHAPTER TWO: OVERVIEW OF THE ORGANIZATION
2.1 Brief Description of The Organization
2.1.1 Brief History
Cameroon is one of the countries in the world with freedom of worship.
The Roman Catholic Church in the early 1900s, began evangelization in
Cameroon through the help of missionaries. To ease movements, they were
provided with vehicles. As the number of vehicles increased, maintenance and
repairs became a problem. In 1955 the Roman Catholic Church in Cameroon
created a Catholic Mission Technical Center (CMTC) in the town of Bamenda to
maintain and repair vehicles of missionaries and priests. The initiative of creating
CMTC all originated in Holland through a Dutch Rev. Br Joseph Trinbach who
was a mechanical engineer.
2.1.2 Policy of The Organization
Catholic Mission Technical Center (CMTC) like any other organization has
policies. These policies are out in place in other to ensure the smooth functioning
of the organization. These policies are as follows;
• The CMTC does not work on days of obligation like Good Friday,
Sunday, Ash Wednesday, Ascension Thursday and the Feast of
Assumption.
• CMTC employs it employees not based on religious background but
on the qualifications and technical know-how of the applicant.
• Work in CMTC must begin each day with morning devotion led by
any of the workers.
• Any damage caused on a customer’s vehicle is paid for by the author
of the damaged.
• Working days are Mondays to Saturdays. On Mondays to Fridays
work begins at 8:00am, an hour break that is from 12:00 noon to
1:00pm and the day finally ends at 4:00pm. While, on Saturdays work
begins at 8:00am and ends at 12:00 noon.
2.1.3 Products
CMTC offers both products and services to its customers such as general
(mechanical and electrical) repairs and maintenance of automobiles, inspection of
chassis structures, welding of chassis structures, machining of pieces, servicing of
2
automobiles, charging of vehicle battery, testing of injectors and hydraulic,
pressing of ball socket joints. In addition, CMTC offers products sure as
automobile spare parts, window protectors, iron doors and metallic balconies.
2.1.4 Competitors
Catholic Mission Technical Center like any other organization is threatened by
competitors. The major competitors of the Catholic Mission garage are
automobile maintenance and repair companies and small garages in the Bamenda
town.
2.1.5 Markets
CMTC offers an available market. That is, CMTC offers its products and
services to everyone. But in the early years of its creation CMTC Offered its
services to missionaries, priests and religious only, for the sake of evangelization.
2.2 Organizational Chart of The Company
2.2.1 Organizational Hierarchy Chart
Director General (Archbishop of Bamenda)
Financial Committee
The Manager
Chief Mechanic
The Sectary
The Store Keeper
Workers And Apprentice
2.2.2 Number of Employees
Catholic Mission Technical Centre currently has six permanent workers with
good mechanical skills and technical know-how with ten students on internship
and finally four apprentices.
3
2.2.3) Introduction of The Departments
CMTC in order to ease the follow up of employees, administrative control and
functioning, has divided itself into three main departments with each been led by
a departmental head. The departments are as follows;
➢ Mechanical department
This department is responsible for the maintenance and repairs of vehicles
mechanical systems. Any vehicle diagnosed of mechanical fault is sent to this
department.
➢ Welding department
This department is responsible for the inspection and welding of vehicles
chassis, production of window protectors, iron doors and metallic balconies. Any
vehicle with a chassis problem is sent to this department.
2.2.4 Comments on The Organizational Chart
The strength of the hierarchical organization of this company is: decision
making which is not done by a single person but by a group of persons, thus
increasing the chances of having a better output. On the other hand, the weakness
of this hierarchical organization is: decision making which is slow as head
workers have to all sit in order to make a decision.
3.0 CHAPTER THREE: PLAN OF INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
3.1 Starting and Ending Dates
My internship lasted for a month. I began my internship on Tuesday the 3rd of
August 2021 and ended on Friday the 30th of September 2021.
4
3.2 Starting and Closing Times
In the Catholic Mission Technical Centre, working days were Mondays to
Fridays with working hours distributed as follows; on Mondays to Fridays work
began at 8:00am with morning devotion, an hour break that is from 12:00 noon to
1:00pm and ended at 4:00pm. While on Saturdays work began at 8:00am with
morning devotion and ended at 12:00 noon.
3.3 Departments and Duration of Stay
During my stay at the Catholic Mission Technical Center, I spent most of my
time at the mechanical department and little time at the welding department.
During my one month stay in CMTC I didn’t visit the electrical department, this
was because it wasn’t functional at the moment.

5.0 CHAPTER FIVE:
ORGANIZATIONAL/DEPARTMENTAL/BRANCH CRITICAL
AND SWOT ANALYSES
5.1 Internal Potency
5.1.1 Aims and objectives of the organization
The Catholic mission technical center is a well-equipped and organized
automobile establishment which is aimed at:
• Maintaining and repairing vehicles of religious, religious community, catholic
hospital, and vehicles of the general public.
• Training apprentice and sponsoring the underprivileged to come back and work
in the garage.
• And offering collaborative academic for teachers and engineering students in the
field of engineering.
5.1.2 Company Strategies
CAMTC in order to better attain or archive its goals has put in place the following
suitable strategies:
• Creation of business link with religious communities, catholic hospitals, catholic
schools, and some government establishment.
• And the warmth welcome of customers at the reception and proper solving of their
vehicle faults.
5.1.3 Company Leadership
CMTC from its creation in the year 1955 has been managed and controlled by
religious. The bishop appoints a qualified religious who has studied mechanical
Engineering with a good technological know-how to control and manage the garage.
Presently the garage is managed and controlled by Rev. Br. Paul from Saint MARTIN
DE PORRRES Community.
5.1.4 Technological Know-How
CAMTC is a religious establishment but doesn’t employ its employee based on
religious consideration but on the skills and technical know-how of the applicant.
Catholic mission technical center has eight employees with a good technical know-how
who are able to repair recent technology vehicles operate highly sophisticated machines
in the establishment.
19
5.1.5 Company Finance
In the Catholic Mission Technical Center, the secretary is responsible for the
money collection and registration. Any vehicle which comes into the garage pays
registration fee of 1000frs. When this fee is paid the car owner then lays his/her complaint
to the chief mechanic. The chief mechanic after the diagnose of the fault and repair of the
vehicle then gives the work cost which the customer pays to the secretary. At the end of
each month the money realized from the sales of spare parts, repair of vehicles and vehicle
registration is sent to the bishop’s house for confirmation after which is sent to the mission
bank were catholic workers collect their monthly salary.
5.1.6 Business Link
CAMTC like any other company or enterprise has created business links with
other establishment in the town of Bamenda. Some of these establishment include;
• Catholic hospitals in Bamenda town like Saint Blaise Clinic Big Mankind.
• Catholic schools
• Religious communities like Saint MARTIN DE PORRRES
• Some government hospitals like the Bamenda regional hospital.
5.2 Internal Factors Hindering the Growth Of CMTC
There exist some internal factors hindering the growth of Catholic Mission
Technical Center such as;
• Non respect of time: some workers do come late for work which as a result leads
to decrease in productivity.
• Non respect of safety rules: Safety rules are meant to protect the individual and
the environment this implies failure to do so may lead to an accident.
5.3 External Factors Hindering the Growth Of CMTC
Some external factors hindering the growth of CMTC include;
• It’s location: Due to the fact that CMTC is located in the cathedral, makes it
difficult for people to know of its existence hence may not contribute to the growth
of the enterprise.
20
5.4 Identification of Main Problems
My days in CMTC weren’t completely problem –free. Each day came up with
its own challenges and problems. The two major problems I faced were;
_ The current insecurity in the Bamenda town which makes it difficult for me to be at
work on time and not able to go to work on Mondays.
_ And the high monetary demand required getting me into work and back each day.
21
CONCLUSION
The Catholic Mission Technical Center is really a nice place for any intern to
be due to the fact that it has equipment’s with well trained personals to help use this
equipment’s properly hence, making CMTC one of the best garages in Bamenda.
RECOMMENDATION
The Catholic Mission Technical Center should try to make use of the electrical
department by bringing in a well-trained electrical engineer to take control of the
department which will help increase the rate of production.
