CHAPTER 1
Introduction
1.1 Introduction
When wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) was first developed, the entire globe was
transformed. (Cambridge Dictionary, 2022) People all over the world can profit from
Wi-Fi because of its features. For instance, Wi-Fi connects computers, tablets,
cellphones, and other devices to the internet wirelessly. Wi-Fi is a radio signal that is
transmitted from a wireless router to a device nearby and convert the signal into the
data that can be seen and use. (Market, 2022) Additionally, a Wi-Fi network sends
data over a network. A wireless adaptor that transforms data into radio waves is
required. The router decodes the signals before transmitting them through an
antenna. The signal is delivered to the Internet over a connected Ethernet connection
after being decoded by the router.
From the history, Hedy LaMarr and George Antheil came up with the amazing
concept of creating a system that allowed radio waves to move onto other
frequencies during World War II to prevent the enemy from jamming the radio signals
of the US Navy. (Vanstone, 2022)
Depending on how people felt about the Wi-Fi services offered, different
feedback was supplied. As is well known, students value Wi-Fi greatly for a variety of
reasons, including the ability to use it to conduct research for academic tasks.
Therefore, having a strong connection will be necessary for the learning. The
internet's speed is also a key concern regarding Wi-Fi. It will be annoying if the speed
caps given don’t increase linearly with the number of people connected to the Wi-Fi.
Further, one of the key benefits of having Wi-Fi solutions in schools is increased
student engagement. Technology is already a vital part of students' lives outside the
1
classroom, and it's only natural to leverage it at school to drive their curiosity and
encourage participation.
1.2 Problem Statement
Wi-Fi, also known as "wireless fidelity," is a method of connecting computers
and other electronic devices to the internet without the use of wires. (Cambridge
Dictionary, 2022) Over the past few years, Wi-Fi has spread rapidly throughout the
world. Most people now use Wi-Fi because it is faster and more convenient. Many
establishments, including restaurants, hotels, and schools, offer Wi-Fi connections.
Accordingly, as a researchers should be concerned about people's perspectives
about using Wi-Fi affect the use of Wi-Fi.
Universities are one of the most important places where Wi-Fi is required.
Students need Wi-Fi to conduct research or complete assignments. However,
because so many students are using the same Wi-Fi, the connection is getting
slower. Not all areas near the universities will receive full coverage of the connection.
As a result, the students must purchase their own prepaid phones and use their own
data, which will also cause some problems.
1.3 Objective of the Study
1) To identify the level of satisfaction among students at UiTM Segamat
toward the Wi-Fi facilities.
2) To identify which places around college in UiTM Segamat has the best
Wi-Fi performance.
3) To identify which internet line that being preferred by most students at
UiTM Segamat.
2
1.4 Significance of the Study
The contribution of this study is to understand the perspectives of UiTM
Segamat students toward Wi-Fi facility provided around the college in helping with
their studies and identify students reliant on the Wi-Fi. These perspectives can help
administration college in upgrading the facility’s performance parallel to the problem
faced by most students during using the facilities.
The purpose of this study is to help students acknowledge places around the
college that have the best Wi-Fi’s performance for them do their work. This will
increase their quality time of studies rather than spend time on non-stop problem with
trouble to access the facility. Moreover, this study will be beneficial for students who
want to save money from purchasing a hotspot for internet access to their laptop or
tablet.

CHAPTER 2
Methodology
1.5 Population
In statistics, researchers will observe a statistical sample from the population
to attempt to learn something about the population. In this study, the population is
183 students from Part 1 of Diploma Mathematical Sciences at UiTM Segamat.
1.6 Sample of study
Sampling is the specific procedure of choosing a sample from the population.
A set of items selected from the population was determined by the limited time and
budget to conduct the survey. In this study, the sample size was determined using
Krejcie and Morgan Table.
Figure 2.1 Krejcie and Morgan Table
4
From the table, the recommendation sample size over 183 of population is
123 students from Part 1 of Diploma Mathematical Sciences at UiTM Segamat.
1.7 Sampling Frame
A sampling frame is a list of people or things from which a sample can be
taken. In this study, the sampling frame is a list of 183 students from Part 1 of
Diploma Mathematical Sciences at UiTM Segamat.
1.8 Sampling Technique
The sampling technique is the name or other identifier of the specific process
used to choose the entities of the sample. In this study, simple random sampling was
applied. Simple random sampling can be defined which every element in the
population has an equal chance of being selected as a sample. This strategy is the
best appropriate for this study as the population of the study was small.
The sample will be selected using random number table generate by Excel.
Excel offers a tool for called Sampling Data Analysis. For the tool to function, the
population must first be defined as a range in an Excel worksheet. Thus, in this
study, 183 students from Part 1 of Diploma Mathematical Sciences at UiTM Segamat
was defined as a population. The tool was then using the following input parameters
to decide how to conduct the sampling. (Random Sampling | Real Statistics Using
Excel, 2020)
By using this method, sample size of 123 students from Part 1 of Diploma
Mathematical Sciences at UiTM Segamat required can be identified.
1.9 Method of Data
After the samples have been chosen, the data from all of them will be
gathered. The best technique to collect data from the respondents were figured out.
5
To conduct this study, an online questionnaire was distributed. This online
questionnaire consists of six fundamental questions that ask students from Part 1 of
Diploma Mathematical Sciences at UiTM Segamat about their satisfaction with the
Wi-Fi facilities supplied. Each respondent was provided a link to this online
questionnaire.
An advantage of using an online questionnaire is that it is more convenient
and takes less time. Respondents can answer it from anywhere with an internet
connection. Furthermore, online questionnaires make it easier to collect results. The
researcher does not need to collect data from the respondents because the results
can be obtained online. This is more convenient for the researcher and saves time.
1.10 Method to Analyse Data
a) Pie Chart
A pie chart is a type of graph that typically used to depict a proportional
relationship as a circular graphic. The circle is divided into different sectors, each
representing a proportion of the whole, and is expressed in terms of a 360-degree
proportion. Pie charts are an excellent way to organize data to see the size of
components in relation to the whole, and they are especially effective in displaying
percentages for proportional data. It is also a good approach to illustrate information
that might be presented in a short table. The following are the guidelines for creating
a pie chart:
1. Select a small number of categories to reflect the data being summarised. A
pie chart with too many categories is difficult to comprehend.
2. Partition the circle to match the percentage for each of the parts.
3. When possible, layout the pie chart so that the percentages are in ascending
or descending order. This approach aids in data interpretation.
6
b) Bar Chart
A bar chart is used to depict qualitative data in contingency tables or
frequency distributions. It is used to summarise a collection of categorical data. The
bar chart displays data by utilising a series of bars, each representing a different
category. Each bar's height is proportional to a given aggregate, which represents
the magnitude of the frequency to be represented. It is possible to colour or break
each bar into another categorised column in the data, allowing us to see how distinct
categories contribute to each bar or set of bars in the bar chart. There are four
common type of bar chart. They are the vertical or simple bar chart, cluster or also
known as multiple bar chart, stacked or component bar chart and percentage stacked
bar chart. The following are general rules for developing a bar chart:
1. The various categories of the data can be conveyed along horizontal or
vertical axis whichever is appropriate.
2. Create a rectangular over each category and separate the rectangular. The
space between each bar should be uniform, and all bars should be the same
width.
3. A suitable scale must be selected, and it must begin at zero.
4. Should have a title or heading indicating the variable being presented.

CHAPTER 4
Conclusion
1.12 Conclusion
From the survey, most of the satisfaction level of students CS143 Part 1 with
the provided Wi-Fi facilities is unsatisfied with 44 students (35.8%) and it was
achieved by using pie chart as in Figure 3.1. Following that 43 students (45.0%), 24
students (19.5%), 9 students (7.3%) and 3 students (2.4%) with the satisfaction level
of neutral, very unsatisfied, satisfied and very satisfied respectively.
Moving onto another objective, which was achieved by using vertical bar chart
as in Figure 3.2, places that has the best Wi-Fi performance in UiTM Segamat is
classroom with 86 students (69.9%). Followed by food court with 14 students
(11.4%), residential college 14 student (11.4%) and others which contain 9 student
(7.3%). Next, from the survey, internet line that being preferred by most students at
UITM Segamat is their own internet line which being counting around 114 students
(92.7%) and 9 students (7.3%) voting for Wi-Fi UiTM.
Based on the surveys, it can be concluded that the overall results show that
CS143 Part 1 students prefer their own hotspots rather than using Wi-Fi UiTM. It is
achieved by using pie chart in Figure 3.3. According to the data analysis, almost all
students (114 out of 123 students) use their own hotspots instead of using Wi-Fi
UiTM. Most of them rather pays for their own Internet so that they can get a better
connection of it.
In conclusion, many of students feel disappointed with the Wi-Fi provided by
the college management. It seems like they need to use their own money to buy
internet data for study and assigned their assignment at UITM Segamat. In future,
hope that this study can give benefits to others and opened concerned parties to take
their action for this Wi-Fi problem.
