Ans: Due to extreme hot climate and lack of water the life of people in this region is
difficult hence these areas are thinly populated. Most of the people either live along
the edges of the desert or near the oasis. Small nomadic groups live in the desert.
Farming is practiced near the oasis for example date palm, millets, fruits and other
vegetables are grown.

Ans: The hot desert region is facing many challenges like.
a) Oasis are getting dried up due to global warming. Wild fire is destroying the
vegetation of the region.
b) Deserts are spreading due to soil erosion due to this the valuable agricultural is
being lost every year.
c) Due to over irrigation the increased amount of salt is making difficult for plants
to survive.
d) With the modern methods of raising livestock over-grazing is destroying the
fragile desert environment.
e) Camels are replaced with powerful off-road vehicles damaging the desert
habitat.

Ans: The three types of deserts are:
1. Hot or tropical deserts
2. Temperate deserts
3. Cold deserts
5. Describe the plant life in desert.
Ans: The plants of desert region have special roots that help them absorb the small
amount of water. Its leaves are modified into thorns. The stems are thick and fleshy
and store water for plants. Cacti and yuccas are common desert plants.
