Now, some breaking news: A Latam Airlines jet collided with a firetruck on the runway as it

was taking off from the Jorge Chavez airport with destination to Juliaca.

For more details, our correspondent Mayte is on the scene.

There are two versions: The first one, that there was a fire drill; and, the second one, that
these firefighters were going to attend to an emergency that was not related to this plane.
What information do you have at this time, Mayte?

That's right, Astrid. A very unpleasant fact that had resulted in the death of two firefighters.

It was unclear why the firetruck entered the runway while the plane was taking off. The
prosecutors’ office said it was investigating the incident as potential manslaughter.

So, nobody knows what really happened so far. Consequently, we don’t have an official or
authorized version.

We must remember this is the second incident in less than a month involving LATAM Airlines,
after one of its planes had its nose destroyed during a severe storm that forced it to make an
emergency landing.

Chile-based LATAM Airlines' Peru branch said it was deploying all its resources to attend to
those affected, and work with authorities to support the investigation.

Our program have received more than 2000 whatsapps and tweets from the general public
that contained shows and video footage of the incident. The first arrived at 03:30 p.m just five
minutes after the collision occurred. This was a long time before the journalists arrived.

Bloggers, tweeters, amateur photographers and eyewitnesses provided unique news coverage
of the event. They posted videos on social media showed the jet colliding with the firetruck as
it careened down the runway, then rapidly catching fire and smoking heavily as it ground to a
halt. The clips were not professional, but they produced more vivid and inmediate broadcasts
and breaking news.

That’s right, Mayte. And what do eyewitnesses tell you about the accident?

Mauro Ferreira, a Brazilian waiting to board a flight home to Panama, who filmed the incident,
told me that everyone in the departure lounge was apprehensive until they saw the plane
stopped, and then the fire engines and ambulances arrived. And Alejandra Souza, his wife, said
that it was a harrowing feeling because they didn't know how many people were inside the
plane and the flames were very tall
