1. To determine if a signal is periodic, we need to check if there exists a constant ( T ) such that

( x ( t ) =x ( t+ T ) ) for all (t).

For ( x (t)=cos(8t )+ 4 sin (8 t))

find the period (T ) such that x (t)=x (t+T )

insert (x (t))∧(x (t+T ))

cos (8 t)+ 4 sin(8 t )=cos (8(t +T ))+ 4 sin (8(t +T ))

using trigonometric identity

cos (θ+ 2 π ) =cos ( θ ) and sin ( θ+2 π )=sin ( θ )

2π π
T= =
8 4

π
Therefore, the function (x (t)=cos(8 t)+4 sin (8 t)) is periodic with period T =
4

2. For ¿

find the period ( T ) such that x (t)=x (t+T )

Insert (x (t))and (x (t+ T ))

(
cos (3 t +4 )=cos 3 ( t +T ) +
π
4 )
Comparing the coefficients of ( t ) , we see (3 T =2 π ), since the coefficient of ( t )

determines the frequency of oscillation. Therefore T =
3

Therefore, the function ¿ is periodic with period

T=
3

3. Match the signal to the appropriate sketch a thru d above.

x (t)= [ 0 ,t <−2 ]
x (t )= [ t +3 ,−2 ≤ t<2 ]
x (t )= [ T −4 , 2≤ t ]

t >2 , x ( t ) =0 , for t=−2 , x ( t )=−2+3=1

For t=−1 , x ( t )=−1+3=2 f ∨t=0 , x ( t )=3+0=3
For t=1 , , x ( t )=1+3=4 for t=2 , x ( t )=2−4=−2
For t=3 , , x ( t )=3−4=−1 for t=4 , x ( t ) =4−4=0
For t=5 , , x ( t )=5−4=1 for t=6 , x ( t )=6−4=2

Therefore Graph A

4. Match the signal to the appropriate sketch a thru d above.

x [ n ] =[ 0 , n<2 ]
x [n]= [ 2 n – 4 , 2 ≤n< 4 ]
x [ n ] =[ 4 – n , 4 ≤ n ]

t >2 , x ( n )=0 , for n=2 x (n)=2(2)−4=0

For n=3 , x ( n )=2 ( 3 )−4=2 f ∨n=4 , x ( n ) =4−4=0
For n=5 , x (n)=4−5=−1 for n=6 , x (n)=4−6=−2

Therefore Graph C
