steel-consuming sectors. With the changing market scenario and increase in consumption of steel
products. We shall continue to fine-tune our growth plans keeping in mind the upcoming projects in
India.
Weaknesses
Exposure to supplier concentration risk: JSPL meets a sizable of its procurements from
Tata Steel BSL Limited. For JSPL to meet growth in sales of over medium term, steady flow
from Tata Steel BSL will remain a critical factor. USL, being a forward integration entity,
also partially relies on supplies from Tata Steel BSL.
Exposure to intense competition: The steel trading industry is dominated by many
unorganized players catering to local demand. These players primarily cater to regional
demand to save on high transportation cost, as price is the main differentiating factor. Also,
since steel is a commodity product where brand recognition and loyalty are not high, demand
is extremely sensitive to change in prices. Commoditized industry and the resultant intense
competition may continue to constrain scalability, pricing power, and profitability.
JYOTI STRIPS PVT. LTD. would strive to achieve sustainable development in all spheres of life
including integrated community development, promotion of arts and culture, environment protection
and sports, Hospitals to provide best facilities at reasonable cost to needy people, educational
institutions to promote higher learning and achieving sustainability.

1. Recruitment processes- Recruitment or Hiring is the process of searching and attracting
the right candidates for hiring them for vacant jobs in an organization. There are two sources
of recruitment, internal sources and external sources.
Recruitment refers to the process of searching for potential employees and influencing them
to work for their organization.
The purpose of the recruitment process is to find talented and qualified individuals for the
growth and development of their organization. It is part of the human resource management
(HRM) department.
4. Payroll management- Payroll is defined as the process of paying salary to the employee of
a company/organization. It starts with preparing the list of employees to whom salaries must
be paid and end with recording those expenses.
The payroll process involves calculating what is due to the employees for a specific payroll

CHAPTER 5
ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN
Recruitment Process:
A recruitment process involves activities like identifying different sources of labor supply from which
applications of prospective employees may be obtained; evaluating the validity of different sources;
choosing the most suitable source; and attracting and motivating prospective candidates to apply for
the vacant job.
Step 1: Preparing
Once the job opening is approved internally, the recruiter contacts the hiring manager. This step is
about gathering details about the open position. During the discussion, the recruiter has to gather
information, like the required skills, roles, responsibilities, etc., and use this information to write a
clear and inclusive Job description. Based on the job description, they can write the job posting.
Step 2: Sourcing
Once the job description is ready, the next step is to start the sourcing. It refers to identifying and
contacting qualified candidates rather than waiting for the candidate to apply for the position. The
primary goal is to pull qualified candidates. A recruiter uses a variety of job portals to pull the
resumes, but it is not essential that for every position, sourcing is required. In some cases, if there are
a large number of applications, there may not be any need to source more candidates.
Step 3: Screening
The Screening of a candidate can take place in many ways. Generally, the first step is Resume
screening. If the resume meets the criteria required for the job opening, then the next step is the phone
screening, in which, the recruiter can cover topics, like the candidate’s availability, current role, and
responsibilities, current salary, salary expectations, Notice period, etc., and if he seems to be the right
candidate, an organization can process further with his profile.
Step 4: Selecting
This process is about sending the assignments, psychometric tests and scheduling interviews,
participating in the interview process, and also keeping the hiring manager in the loop for the whole
process. It is about maintaining a good relationship with the candidate and keeping the candidate
updated about the interview feedback.
Step 5: Hiring
This step includes the final discussion with the candidate about salary, joining date, etc. Once the
joining date is confirmed, the offer letter is released. In some cases, this step also includes background
checks.
Step 6: Onboarding
Once the candidate has accepted the offer letter, the process is not over yet. This is where the pre-
boarding period starts. This is the time between the joining date and when the offer letter was
accepted. And it’s very important to be in touch with your candidate during this period to keep them
engaged. If not done so, it can result in them joining another company. It also includes sharing the
new hire’s email and other details with the team. Once the candidate starts the first day, it’s time to
begin the onboarding process.
Recruitment Techniques:
Internal recruitment:
You can post the opening on your internal company site so that current employees can apply if they
want to switch their roles. This technique can save a lot of time.
Retained recruitment:
You can reach third-party consultancies to fill the open positions, but you have to pay a fee for the
recruitment work and even some additional pay once the position is closed by them.
Contingency recruitment:
In this option, you can reach third parties but have to pay only when the employee is hired.
Career fairs:
Going into this event provides an opportunity to hire the best candidate for your organization and also
helps to market your company.
Campus Recruiting:
If you are looking for freshers and there is a good number of vacancies in your organization, then
going to campus and conducting the hiring drive can be a good option.
Social Media:
You can post the openings on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter to attract more and more candidates.
Types of Recruitment:
Recruitment is of 2 types
➢ Internal recruitment
➢ External recruitment
Internal Recruitment: Internal recruitment is a recruitment which takes place within the concern or
organization. Internal sources of recruitment are readily available to an organization. Internal sources
are primarily three – Transfers, promotions and Re-employment of ex-employees.
Internal recruitment may lead to increase in employee’s productivity as their motivation level
increases. It also saves time, money and efforts. But a drawback of internal recruitment is that it
refrains the organization from new blood. Also, not all the manpower requirements can be met
through internal recruitment. Hiring from outside has to be done.
External Recruitment: External sources of recruitment have to be solicited from outside the
organization. External sources are external to a concern. But it involves lot of time and money. The
external sources of recruitment include – Employment at factory gate, advertisements, employment
exchanges, employment agencies, educational institutes, labor contractors, recommendations etc.
Employment at Factory Level: This a source of external recruitment in which the applications for
vacancies are presented on bulletin boards outside the Factory or at the Gate. This kind of recruitment
is applicable generally where factory workers are to be appointed. There are people who keep on
soliciting jobs from one place to another. These applicants are called as unsolicited applicants. These
types of workers apply on their own for their job. For this kind of recruitment workers have a
tendency to shift from one factory to another and therefore they are called as “badli” workers.
Advertisement: It is an external source which has got an important place in recruitment procedure.
The biggest advantage of advertisement is that it covers a wide area of market and scattered applicants
can get information from advertisements. Medium used is Newspapers and Television.
Employment Exchanges: There are certain Employment exchanges which are run by government.
Most of the government undertakings and concerns employ people through such exchanges. Now-a-
days recruitment in government agencies has become compulsory through employment exchange.
Employment Agencies: There are certain professional organizations which look towards recruitment
and employment of people, i.e., these private agencies run by private individuals supply required
manpower to needy concerns.
Educational Institutions: There are certain professional Institutions which serves as an external
source for recruiting fresh graduates from these institutes. This kind of recruitment done through such
educational institutions, is called as Campus Recruitment. They have special recruitment cells which
helps in providing jobs to fresh candidates.
Recommendations: There are certain people who have experience in a particular area. They enjoy
goodwill and a stand in the company. There are certain vacancies which are filled by
recommendations of such people. The biggest drawback of this source is that the company has to rely
totally on such people which can later on prove to be inefficient.
Labor Contractors: These are the specialist people who supply manpower to the Factory or
Manufacturing plants. Through these contractors, workers are appointed on contract basis, i.e., for a
particular time period. Under conditions when these contractors leave the organization, such people
who are appointed have to also leave the concern.
Importance of Recruitment:
Recruit Skilled Employees: The importance of recruitment and selection in HRM is to acquire
skilled employees for business. These potential employees have the necessary skills to fit in the role
or can have trending skills that your business is missing right now. By recruiting top talents in the
market, your teams can aim for high productivity levels and meet desired outcomes.
Prevents Disruptions in Business Activity: Business needs to keep changing with market trends.
Here comes the importance of recruitment in HRM, where the HR team selects candidates from
different backgrounds and domains to fulfil organizational needs without disrupting its operations.
Ultimately, you can stay assured that all your daily business activities will be performed smoothly.
Improve Morale in the Business: When your company focuses on a strong recruitment process, you
improve morale within the workplace by finding individuals who fit perfectly with your company
culture. The recruiter can stay assured that the company is growing sustainably due to the chosen
candidate understanding their company’s culture and actively participating in every task.
Assists in Business Growth: When you bring new skilled team members on board, your business
will increase productivity and better serve your customers. The importance of employee selection in
HRM comes into action when you aim to improve
the business bottom line and add value to your
company.
Fill up Vacant Positions: When a position is left vacant for an extended period, business productivity
reduces, and additional responsibilities harm your existing employees. The purpose and importance of
recruitment are to fill these vacancies thoughtfully and not by making any haste decisions.
Improve Employee Retention Rates: Employee retention in organizations is a daunting task today.
However, you can reduce employee turnover with effective recruitment strategies. As an employer,
you need to mention as many details as required about the job, benefits, and other expectations to
reduce employee turnover. Contrarily, encourage questions from the applicants. This two-way
communication can help candidates to understand what they can expect after accepting your job offer
and prevent them from seeking other employment.
Develop a Good Workplace Culture: An organization’s workplace culture includes its values,
beliefs, and behaviors shared among the employees. Here’s the importance of selection in human
resource management, where the recruiters use the best strategy to identify the right fit. These
candidates can adjust to your work smoothly and promote a better environment, leading to high
productivity, employee satisfaction, and retention.
Improve Your Brand’s Perception: You can usually hire one applicant for a vacancy, but
conducting interviews with dozens of candidates improves your brand perception. Even when you
don’t hire them, they remember the experience with you. If you leave a positive mark on these talents,
chances are they can apply for other roles in your company or the next time when there is a vacancy.
Increase in Productivity: When a company hires skilled and experienced employees, it can
experience increased productivity as these employees can produce more in less time. It means your
production cost decreases as your production becomes efficient.
Producing Quality Products: By using effective recruitment and selection strategies, you find
employees that are best suited for the role. It means they have the right expertise and knowledge to
produce quality products, thus reducing the possibility of a lapse in the production process.
Better Customer Service: Customer service for any business plays an essential role in their success.
A highly skilled employee better understands how to value customers and can assist them better. It
results in higher customer satisfaction, customer loyalty, better sales, improved profits, and faster
business growth.
Set up a Successful Business: When using effective recruitment and hiring strategies, the HR team
can bring the best talents to your table. These high-caliber people have suitable qualifications and
experience and match the company’s work culture. When your employees understand their roles in
your company and perform them accordingly, your success is guaranteed.
CHAPTER 6
SWOT ANALYSIS
A SWOT analysis is a planning process that helps your company overcome challenges and determine
which new leads to pursue. “SWOT” stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. You
should perform a SWOT analysis before you commit to any sort of company action, whether you are
exploring new initiatives, revamping internal policies, considering opportunities to pivot or altering a
plan midway through its execution.
