Droitiwch Held by Olton and West Warwick

Droitwich looked to score against an Olton side which they never managed during the 2010/2011 season home or away and conceding eight goals in the process. Droitwich opened the scoring in the second half after 50minutes, Ian Francis, slotting home after a well worked penalty corner routine. Olton centre forward equalised with a strike which flicked off Droitiwch keeper, Cameran Grant kicker, into the right hand corner of the net. Don Craven put Droitwich back in front with an early crisp strike from the top of the circle but Olton equalised with an expert flick over the advancing Cameran Grant who could only help it into the corner This draw extended Spa unbeaten run to the start of the season, and consolidated fourth place leaving them with 8 points, whilst Olton are building on an indifferent start to the season compared to last. Droitwich started this game quickly after a tactical change meant playing 3-5-1, as Spa started with 10. Spa moved the ball around the back and counter attacked well, but lacked the cutting edge and composure around the D, lacking that final pass. Defensively Droitwich were composed dealing with fast and skilful forwards restricting the opposition to speculative balls up to the offensive line, and only conceded two penalty corners one of which was needlessly conceded by Ian Francis as he carried out his defensive duties. Half time score was 0 -0. Droitwich started the second half very quickly and moved the ball quickly using the width of the pitch and began to create chances for Bradley King; Pepe Olgesfield Hope; Mike Carsberg and Don Craven. This pressure culminated when Mike Carsberg took the ball to the by-line and was awarded a penalty corner which was dispatched low into the goal midfielder Ian Francis. Olton grew in confidence and poured men forward which Spa defence repelled with Connor Glackin and Thomas Glackin harrying and using their guile to keep them at bay. However, Droitiwch began to concede free hits around the circle which turned into penalty corners. From one of these penalty corners Olton equalised. After this Droitwich re-grouped with Cameran Grant repelling shots and was helped out by the team. From a free hit inside Droitwich own half, 3 passes later, Don Craven took his chance to drill the ball low into the goal from the top of the circle to give Spa a 2-1 lead. For the last 10 minutes, both sides utilised the space, as both sides grew tired, with Droitwich and Olton creating many chances. Olton pressure told as a break down the right resulting in a one two which the Olton forward expertly clipped over the sliding keeper. Just after Olton went down to 10 after Olton Centre Forward received a yellow card, but Droitwich could not make the extra player tell leaving the final score as 2-2. This left a Droitwich side satisfied with the resilience shown and the understanding being developed and will look at improving the ball retention and move the ball quicker. Connor Glackin got Man of the Match, for his sterling defensive display and wing back play. Droitwich have a home against Evesham next on November 12 2011 with a 3pm pushback.
