cloud computing Architecture

Cloud computing architecture is a combination of service-oriented architecture

and event-driven architecture.

Front End
The front end is used by the client. It contains client-side interfaces
and applications that are required to access the cloud computing
platforms. The front end includes web servers (including Chrome,
Firefox, internet explorer, etc.), thin & fat clients, tablets, and mobile
devices.

Back End
The back end is used by the service provider. It manages all the
resources that are required to provide cloud computing services. It
includes a huge amount of data storage, security mechanism, virtual
machines, deploying models, servers, traffic control mechanisms, etc.
Components of Cloud Computing Architecture
There are the following components of cloud computing architecture
-
1. Client Infrastructure
Client Infrastructure is a Front end component. It provides GUI
(Graphical User Interface) to
interact with the cloud.
2. Application
The application may be any software or platform that a client wants
to access.
3. Service
A Cloud Services manages that which type of service you access
according to the client’s
requirement.
Cloud computing offers the following three type of services:
i. Software as a Service (SaaS) – It is also known as cloud application
services. Mostly,
SaaS applications run directly through the web browser means we do
not require to download
and install these applications. Some important example of SaaS is
given below –
Example: Google Apps, Salesforce Dropbox, Slack, Hubspot, Cisco
WebEx.
ii. Platform as a Service (PaaS) – It is also known as cloud platform
services. It is quite
similar to SaaS, but the difference is that PaaS provides a platform for
software creation, but
using SaaS, we can access software over the internet without the
need of any platform.
Example: Windows Azure, [Link], Magento Commerce Cloud,
OpenShift.
iii. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) – It is also known as cloud
infrastructure services. It
is responsible for managing applications data, middleware, and
runtime environments.
Example: Amazon Web Services (AWS) EC2, Google Compute Engine
(GCE), Cisco
Metapod.
4. Runtime Cloud
Runtime Cloud provides the execution and runtime environment to
the virtual machines.
5. Storage
Storage is one of the most important components of cloud
computing. It provides a huge
amount of storage capacity in the cloud to store and manage data.
6. Infrastructure
It provides services on the host level, application level, and network
level. Cloud
infrastructure includes hardware and software components such as
servers, storage, network
devices, virtualization software, and other storage resources that are
needed to support the
cloud computing model.
7. Management
Management is used to manage components such as application,
service, runtime cloud,
storage, infrastructure, and other security issues in the backend and
establish coordination
between them.
8. Security
Security is an in-built back end component of cloud computing. It
implements a security
mechanism in the back end.
9. Internet
The Internet is medium through which front end and back end can
interact and communicate
with each other
Business Perspective:
1. Cost Efficiency: Cloud computing reduces capital expenditures by
eliminating the
need for organizations to invest in and maintain on-premises
hardware and
infrastructure. This pay-as-you-go model allows businesses to scale
resources up or
down as needed, optimizing IT spending.
2. Agility and Innovation: Cloud services enable businesses to rapidly
deploy new
applications and services, fostering innovation. This agility allows
companies to
respond quickly to market changes and customer demands, gaining a
competitive
edge.
3. Focus on Core Competencies: By outsourcing infrastructure
management to cloud
providers, businesses can concentrate on their core competencies,
such as product
development, customer engagement, and strategic planning.
4. Global Reach: Cloud services are accessible worldwide, facilitating
global expansion
without the need for physical data centers in every region. This
scalability and reach
can enhance market penetration and customer reach.
IT Perspective:
1. Simplified Infrastructure Management: Cloud computing relieves
IT departments
of the burden of managing physical servers, networking equipment,
and data centers.
This frees up IT staff to focus on strategic tasks, such as optimizing
cloud services for
the organization's needs.
2. Scalability and Flexibility: IT can easily scale resources up or down
to accommodate
changing workloads and business requirements. This flexibility
ensures that
organizations can adapt to fluctuations in demand without
overprovisioning resources.
3. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Cloud providers offer
robust backup
and disaster recovery solutions, reducing the risk of data loss and
downtime. This is
critical for ensuring uninterrupted business operations.
4. Security and Compliance: Cloud providers invest heavily in security
measures and
compliance certifications. IT teams can leverage these resources to
enhance data
security and meet industry-specific re

Common questions

Powered by AI

Cloud computing simplifies IT infrastructure management by eliminating the need to handle physical servers, networking equipment, and data centers. This allows IT departments to prioritize strategic tasks such as optimizing and integrating cloud services with organizational goals, rather than getting bogged down by routine infrastructure maintenance .

Platform as a Service (PaaS) provides a platform allowing users to develop, run, and manage applications without dealing with the complexities of infrastructure management. It is distinct from Software as a Service (SaaS), where applications run directly from a web browser and do not require platform management from the user. SaaS focuses on end-user software delivery, whereas PaaS supports application development frameworks .

The 'pay-as-you-go' model is significant because it reduces capital expenditures by eliminating the need for organizations to invest heavily in on-premises hardware. It allows businesses to scale resources according to demand, optimizing IT spending without the risk of overprovisioning, leading to cost efficiency and financial flexibility .

The front end in cloud computing architecture is used by the client and includes interfaces like web servers, thin & fat clients, tablets, and mobile devices, which facilitate client access to cloud services. In contrast, the back end is used by the service provider to manage data storage, security, virtual machines, servers, and traffic control mechanisms critical for delivering cloud services. These two components interact via the internet .

Cloud computing allows businesses to focus on core competencies by outsourcing infrastructure management to cloud providers. This enables organizations to redirect resources and attention toward essential functions like product development and customer engagement, rather than managing IT infrastructure .

Cloud computing enhances disaster recovery and business continuity by offering robust backup and recovery solutions. By utilizing these services, organizations can ensure data protection and reduce downtime, which is critical for maintaining uninterrupted business operations even during catastrophic events .

Cloud computing architecture enhances global reach by providing worldwide access to cloud services, eliminating the need for physical data centers in each region. This scalability allows businesses to penetrate new markets and increase customer engagement on a global scale without the associated logistical challenges .

Client infrastructure provides the GUI for users to interact with cloud services, while runtime cloud provides the execution environment for applications to run on virtual machines. The interaction between these components allows users to seamlessly access and utilize cloud resources, underscoring the integrative nature of cloud systems .

IaaS offers several advantages for managing application data and resources, including the ability to handle vast amounts of data storage, provision virtual machines, and manage runtime environments. This level of control and flexibility helps organizations efficiently manage complex applications and scale resources as needed .

Security in the back end of cloud computing architecture involves implementing robust security mechanisms to protect data and resources. This includes standardized security protocols and measures critical for safeguarding sensitive information managed by service providers, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality .
