Group Assignment (30%)

Question
Read Hardy’s article ‘Copyright and “New-Use” Technologies’, 23 NOVA L REV 659 (1999)
(available on HeinOnline), particularly Part V ‘New Use Analysis’. Applying Hardy’s new use
analysis, discuss how new use of copyright works should be regulated in the context of
generative artificial intelligence. You should also express your opinion on the new use analysis
model suggested by Hardy.

Instructions

1. Form your own groups and each group may be comprised of maximum 6 members.
There should be a group leader for each group.
2. In the event of any group member failing to do his/her part at all, the group leader
may serve a notice via email to him/her, with written consent of all other members,
cc-ed to me. Such notice will thus remove him/her from the group and he/she has to
work on the assignment individually. NOTE: such notice may be issued latest in week
4 and no removal may take place after the end of week 4.
3. Submission: Hand in a hard copy to the Faculty General Office and submit a soft copy
together with Turnitin Report onto Spectrum. A 10% PER DAY PENALTY will be applied
for late submission.
4. Deadline: Week 7 (the exact date will be confirmed by the office of TDID.
5. Format & Length: 12 pt. Times New Roman, double spaced, 2.5 cm margins. Approx.
5000- 6000 words.
