Paleolithic Era: also known as the Stone Age, is the time period from the evolution of the genus “homo,”
human-like beings

 Characterized by non-sedentary (nomadic) hunting and gathering lifestyles

 Lived in small groups of less than 100 of people

Turning Point: A change with a long-lasting impact

 The Neolithic Revolution was a turning point in history that changed the way Paleolithic people
lived their lives
 Shift from hunting and gathering for food to agriculture (farming).
 From nomadic to permanent settlements
 Led to the first civilizations

Innovation #1 – Agriculture: Farming

1. This innovation affected the Paleolithic people by making them settle in one place and farm
instead of moving from one to another to hunt. Since they have more food, the population will
increase.

Innovation #2 – Domestication: the act of changing a wild plant or animal so it can be grown or raised
by humans

2. This innovation affected the Paleolithic people by having more supplies to produce food.
Increase in protein and healthier diet. This also led to easier transportation and more clothes.

Innovation #3 – Permanent settlements: places where people live for long periods of time, possibly for
their whole lives

3. This innovation affected the Paleolithic people by having a shelter to protect them from harsh
weather, etc. It can provide more room for more people. This increase civilizations and more
culture.
