THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

As it is known, Job is one of the primary sources of

income of every people in the world. According to the

Cambridge Dictionary, Job is a Full or Part-time position of

paid employment. It is usually a piece of work at a specific

price. Meaning, Job is a regular work that a person does to

earn money that we primarily need to use to be able to live.

Generally, Job is a very important aspect of people’s lives,

as it helps all of us to have a source of income that primarily

leads us to a stable living.

Particularly, people who recently graduated, or someone

who’s unemployed seeks for a Job because as stated above, Job

is a very important aspect of people’s lives that helps

everyone to live stably (Cambridge Dictionary). Also, similar

to the idea of Austin 2023, which states that Job is a work

you perform to earn money to support your basic needs, it is

true that job is an important aspect of people’s lives. The

researchers believed this idea so they decided to make this

kind of research study about Job Seeking Experiences.

According to Marna de Bruyn and Dr Josh Cameron in 2015,

“Job-seeking is a rich human occupation in which its form,

function and meaning are influenced by internal and external

sources of resilience related to the person, their

occupations and environment”. Three master themes were

developed by them that demonstrated how the job-seeking

experience was understood. These were: (1) understanding the

self and identity, (2) understanding relationships, (3)

understanding job-seeking as a journey.

In this study, the researchers would like to describe

the experiences of the BSAIS Graduates in Seeking for Job

Opportunities. Job Seeking Experiences varies per BSAIS

Graduates. As we all know, Bachelor of Science in Accounting

Information Systems was a newly implemented course in college

by the Commission on Higher Education that meets the minimum

requirements under CMO Number 30, Series of 2017, entitled

“Policies, Standards and Guidelines for the Bachelor of

Science in Accounting Information System”. As a result, the

researchers come up with an idea of studying the different

experiences they encountered when seeking for a job

opportunity. Based on these different experiences, the

researchers would like to analyze how can this be a guide and

basis for the students to be aware of the possible challenges

they might also experience in the future.

The researchers are expecting these experiences from

BSAIS Graduates, to help the students to become more prepared

for the possible challenges they might face. This is not to

discouraged them from pursuing this course but this is just

to inform them so that they can prepare themselves for the

future. The researchers are also expecting to get an

inspiration and motivation from the experiences of the BSAIS

Graduates in seeking for Job Opportunities.

Conceptual Framework

This study is based on the study of Marna De Bruyn and

Dr Josh Cameron in 2015 entitled “The Occupation of Looking

for work: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of an

Individual Job-seeking experiences. Their study is a

Qualitative Research which studies the job-seeking experience

of an individual woman who has been job-seeking for a period

of 3 months. Based on the responses of their participant,

they are able to develop 3 major themes with 2 sub-themes

each. The themes they have developed are the following: (1)

Understanding self and Identity: (a) The threat to and

potential loss of identity, (b) Maintaining and regaining

identity, (2) Understanding Relationships: (a) Disconnection

and connection, (b) Invisibility and Visibility, and (3) Job-

seeking as a journey: (a) Job-seeking as a rollercoaster,

(b)Adjustment and Finding new direction. These themes will be

the primary basis of our study.

Research Paradigm

The Research Paradigm of this study has three parts, the

Input, Process, and Output. The input includes the Profile,

Level of attainment in AIS Program outcomes and Job seeking

experiences of the respondents. The Process includes the

steps and procedures utilized by the researchers in

conducting the study such as Select Participants,

Distribution and retrieval of survey questionnaires, and

Interpretation of Data. The Output include outcome of this

study which is an Informational Document for the Bachelor of

Science in Accounting Information System Students.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

The literature and studies below were carefully selected

and deliberated by the Researchers upon the basis of

reliability of the information presented. The subjects and

topics were considered for a better presentation of the

literature and studies needed in this study.

CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter represents the research methods that will

be use in the study. It shows who the participants are, how

they are sampled and the criteria for choosing them as the

participants of this study. The researcher will describe the

research design that was chosen for the purpose of this study

and the reasons for this choice. The instruments that will be

utilized for data collection is also described and the

procedures to carry out this study are included. The

researcher also discusses the methods that will be use to

analyze the data. Lastly, the ethical issues that will be

followed in the process are also discussed.

Research Design

This research study primarily aimed to describe the

level of attainment in AIS Program Outcomes and Job-seeking

Experiences of BSAIS Graduates. For the purpose of this study,

the research paradigm that was followed is of quantitative

nature, using structured questionnaires as discussed in the

chapter. A Quantitative Research is the process of collecting

and analyzing numerical data, and it can be used to test

causal relationships and generalize results to wider

population (Pritha Bhandari, 2020).

The researchers will use Descriptive Correlational

Research Design in conducting this study. A Descriptive

Method is concerned with describing the nature,

characteristics and components of the population or a

phenomenon. There is no manipulation of variables or search

for cause and effect related to the phenomenon. This design

attempts to find general attributes of the presently existing

situation and determine the frequency with which it occurs

(Faltado et al., 2016). In this study, descriptive research

design will be use in determining the profile, Level of

attainment in AIS Program outcomes and Job seeking experience

of the respondents.

While correlational study seeks to ascertain

relationships between two or more variable. It examines

whether an increase or decrease of one variable corresponds

to an increase or decrease in another variable (Tan L., 2014).

In this study, is use to determine the relationship between

the AIS Skills and Job-seeking experiences of the

respondents.

Research Locale

This research study will be conducted in the Province of

Nueva ecija. This is to easily get in touch with the

respondents when necessary. The figure below represents the

exact location of ELJMC where the respondents must be

graduated.

Figure 1: Location of ELJMC

Respondents

The primary Respondents of this study are the graduates

of Bachelor of Science in Accounting Information System of

ELJMC. The researchers will be using Criterion Purposeful

Sampling design in this study. Criterion Purposeful Sampling

design is use when a specific-criteria is followed to select

a sample. Meaning, respondents are selected because they have

characteristics that we need in our sample (Nikolopoulou, K.

(2022, December 01).

The criteria used for participating in this study is the

respondents must be a graduate of Bachelor of Science in

Accounting Information System in ELJMC.

This criterion is to accurately gather data that can be

useful for the researchers and BSAIS Students.

Data Gathering Procedure

To begin with, the researchers will present the Request

Letter to the school registrar to ask for a copy of the Name

List of the BSAIS Graduates. After the School Registrar give

us the Name List, we will choose 30 employed respondents from

the graduates and make them as the primary respondents for

this study. The researchers will then prepare a Consent Letter

and will present it to the School Administration to ask for

their signature that will serve as a proof that we are really

conducting this study. After the School Administration

permitted the researchers, they will contact each of the

chosen graduates thru online application, to ask for their

permission to become our respondents and will present them

the Consent Letter from the school.

After the respondents gave their consent, the

researchers make clear and explained to the respondents the

importance of their response to the study. The researchers

then kindly ask the respondent to answer with all honesty.

They also assured the respondents that any personal and

private information about them will be kept confidential.

After all the respondents answer the questionnaires, the

researchers will retrieve it and will compile all of their

responses and proceeds to the Data Interpretation.

Instrument

The researchers will use a survey questionnaire that

contains a 5-point likert scale on it to measure the AIS

Skills and job seeking experiences of the respondents. The

questionnaires to be used are the following:

Profile survey questionnaire - This includes sex of the

respondents.

Accounting Information System Program Outcomes – This

questionnaire is a standardized test that assesses the Level

of attainment in AIS Program outcomes of the respondents. The

questionnaire is composed of 18 questions which were adapted

from Ched Memorandum Order No. 30 series of 2017.

assured and they were informed that they were not obliged to

participate and that they could withdraw from the study at

any time without any negative consequences (Pritha Bhandari,

2022).

Participants were also informed that the findings of the

study would be kept in the library and that in the event of

publication, no names will be used (Pritha Bhandari, 2022).

Data Analysis

The following statistical tools were used in the

analysis and interpretation of data:

1. To determine the profile of the respondents, the

frequency count and percentage formula will be used.

2. To identify the level of attainment of the respondents

in AIS Program outcomes, the frequency count,

percentage and mean in every core area will be

determined.

3. To identify the level of experiences of the respondents

in job seeking, the frequency count, percentage and

mean in every core area will be determined.

4. To identify the significant relationship between the

Level of attainment in AIS Program Outcomes and Job

seeking Experiences of the respondents, the Multiple

Regression Formula will be used.

5. Findings of the study will be used as a basis in

developing an Informational Document for the BSAIS

Students, as well as students from any other Course.

Common questions

Powered by AI

Understanding self and identity affects job-seeking by influencing how individuals perceive their value, fit into potential roles, and manage job-seeking stress. The study's thematic analysis shows that job-seeking often challenges personal identity, requiring individuals to reconcile personal preferences and professional demands, which can lead to both a crisis and an opportunity for personal growth . This self-awareness can guide job-seekers in selecting roles that align with their identity, ultimately improving job satisfaction and long-term career success .

The input-process-output conceptual framework structures the study by defining the input as graduates' profiles and job-seeking experiences, the process as the data collection and analysis methods, and the output as an informational document to benefit future students. This framework provides a clear pathway from data collection to actionable insights, ensuring that each stage of the research is aligned with the ultimate goal of enhancing student preparedness . The use of this framework helps map the research journey and assures a comprehensive analysis of the variables involved .

Relationships play a crucial role in job-seeking by providing emotional support, sharing information, and expanding networking opportunities. These experiences can inform institutional support systems by highlighting the importance of mentorship programs, peer support groups, and networking seminars. By fostering healthy relationships, institutions can help graduates feel more connected and equipped to tackle job market challenges, thereby enhancing their success rates .

The study takes several ethical considerations into account, such as obtaining informed consent, ensuring confidentiality, and allowing participants to withdraw at any time without repercussions. These considerations reflect broader ethical research standards by prioritizing participants' autonomy, protecting their private data, and respecting their rights as research subjects. These steps are fundamental to maintaining trust and integrity in research .

Societal perception impacts job-seeking as it affects how individuals view success and evaluate personal worth. The study suggests that societal expectations place pressure on job-seekers to quickly find suitable employment, which can add to the stress and complexity of the job-seeking journey . This may lead individuals to feel disconnected or undervalued if they fail to meet these expectations, reinforcing the job-seeking experience as both challenging and transformative .

Integrating findings from such studies is crucial for educational institutions as it helps them enhance curriculum and support services to better equip students for the job market. By understanding the challenges graduates face, institutions can offer tailored seminars, adjust teaching methods to improve key competencies, and ultimately foster a smoother transition from academia to employment . This, in turn, aligns education outcomes with real-world demands, potentially reducing job-seeking-related anxieties and enhancing employability .

The study’s findings can guide future research by highlighting specific areas of interest such as the psychological impacts of job-seeking, the role of social support in job-seeking success, and the effectiveness of educational programs in preparing students for professional challenges. Researchers could conduct longitudinal studies to track changes in job-seeking experiences over time or focus on comparative analyses between different educational programs to uncover systemic issues and trends .

The study employs a quantitative methodological approach using structured questionnaires with a 5-point Likert scale to gather data on BSAIS graduates' job-seeking experiences . This approach allows for standardized data collection that can be statistically analyzed to identify patterns. Its advantages include the ability to handle large sample sizes and the potential to generalize findings. However, it may not capture nuanced personal experiences and emotions, which could be limitations in understanding the depth of job-seeking challenges .

The study by Marna De Bruyn and Dr. Josh Cameron identifies three primary themes regarding job-seeking experiences: understanding self and identity, understanding relationships, and job-seeking as a journey. For BSAIS graduates, these themes apply as follows: graduates often face challenges to their identity and self-worth during job-seeking, they navigate interpersonal dynamics which can provide support or isolation, and experience the process as a journey full of adjustments and learning opportunities .

The level of attainment in AIS Program outcomes potentially influences job-seeking experiences by equipping graduates with competencies like effective communication, problem-solving, and ethical accountability. These skills are critical during job-seeking, as they can boost confidence, improve relationship-building with potential employers, and assist in navigating the challenges of the job market . The hypothesis posed suggests either a significant relationship or none between these outcomes and job-seeking experiences, which this study seeks to explore .
