Chapter 2 Case Studies Questions and Answers

Campus Resources
1. Have you ever felt uncomfortable introducing yourself to strangers in a new situation?
What did you do to make this experience easier? Yes, I have. I am very awkward around
people especially to strangers. I usually motivate myself to talk to others. I usually have a friend
to talk things for me but ever since I transferred school 3 years ago, I don’t have anyone to
depend on but myself. I made the situation easier for me just by motivating myself to and
thinking how will survive if I don’t learn to talk with strangers.
2. Would it have been appropriate for Andre to ask his instructor questions about the syllabus
during lunch? Why or why not? No, it is ok. If he has received the syllabus, there it must say
the professor’s office hours. So, he should just keep his questions for if ever he goes to the
professor’s office hours. Outside of those hours are the professor’s personal time that we must
respect. Sure, you can ask him, but that would be disrespectful in my opinion.
Using Calendars Effectively
1. Angel, the busy student you just read about, avoided a burnout by confiding in a good
friend who understood her dilemma. How important is it to confide in a like-minded
person? Would it have been as helpful for Angel to talk to a friend who was not juggling
school, work, and personal responsibilities? Talking with a like-minded person will help you
and that other person achieve your goals. You guys will understand each other than talking with a
person with different mind. If you are like-minded, then you will start to think, “if the method she
uses works for her then that could work for me too.” So, you start asking about how they get by.
If Angel talked to a person who was not juggling their schedule, it would not be of much use for
her. Angel is a very busy person, and she has a lot of responsibilities. Her schedule could possibly
change depending on her situation. And she will need to juggle her schedule and she’s going to
need someone who juggle their schedule because they have experience, and they would have
ideas how Angel can do her responsibilities.
2. What are some of the advantages of recording important dates in multiple calendars? Why
is it important to note personal and academic events on the same calendar(s)? Having
important dates on multiple calendars is because the more you see it the more you remember. It
will start to stick to your mind that something will happen on that day, something important.
Personal events and academic events should be on the same calendar because you need to
schedule your personal time depending on the academic events. Your personal event might be on
an important academic event that you don’t want to mis, so you reschedule your own event. So,
it’s basically to keep track of your dates and times.
3. If Angel was a student at your school, what resources would she be able to take advantage
of to maintain her mental well-being and to do well in class? She could do hybrid classes in
blackboard. Because she is a mother and a bank teller. She might get really burnt out if she goes
to class too. She could also use online resources like LBlearning or BVTlabs. Pronto to interact
with her classmates so she could get help morally and academically. She could also make use of
counseling if she really wants to maintain her mental health and well-being. Counselors are the
best people to approach when you need critical help. They will assist with almost anything she
needs help with. And fitness centers to also help her maintain her physical health.
