Unit 6
Light
● Light travels from a light source.
● An object that gives out light is a light source.
● Some light sources are natural. We find them in nature.
Eg:- Sun, stars, firefly, lightning etc.
● Other light sources are artificial. People make them. Eg:-
lamp, lighted candle, street light, flashlight etc.
● Light travels in straight lines. A beam of light has lots of
rays of light.
● A ray of light can be represented by a straight line with
an arrow showing the direction.
● Mirrors have shiny surfaces which reflect light well.
● A beam of light can change direction when it is reflected
from some surface. We can use mirrors to change the
direction of the beam of light. When it hits a mirror, it is
reflected off the mirror and changes direction.
Light reflects off a mirror at the same angle as it arrives
i=r (Law of reflection).
● Some surfaces reflect light better than others.
● We see objects when light from a light source reflects off
the objects and reaches our eyes.
