Activity 1.
Represent the following using Venn diagrams.
1. The union of sets L and A.
2. The intersection of sets P and J.
3. The difference of sets M and V.
4. The union of the three sets P, B and A.
5. The intersection of the three sets J, L and O.
Activity 2. Where am I belong
The teacher asked the students to stand up if they are belong to the set.
B. Establishing a purpose of
the lesson (Motivation) Students who do not love neither singing nor dancing
Students who love both singing and dancing
Students who love dancing only
Students who love singing only
A group of high school students were surveyed whether they
have Facebook or Twitter account. Here is the result of the survey:
237 have Facebook account
120 have Twitter account
57 have both Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Questions:
1. From the group of high school students, how many of them have both Facebook
and Twitter accounts?
2. From the number of students who has Facebook account, how many of them have
Facebook account but have no Twitter? How did you get your answer?
3. From the number of students who has Twitter account, how many of them have
Twitter account but have no Facebook? How did you get your answer?
4. How many students were surveyed? Explain how you arrived with your answer.
By using a Venn Diagram, draw 2 overlapping circles and name them:
F for Facebook and T for Twitter
C. Presenting examples /
1st step: Begin filling out the Venn diagram with the number of
instances of the new
lesson (Presentation) students that have both accounts.
Note: Always start filling values
in the Venn diagram from
the innermost value.
2nd step: Fill out the venn diagram who has
Facebook account only.
237 – 57 = 180 students
3rd step: Fill out the venn diagram who has
Twitter account only.
120 – 57 = 63 students
Answer: There are 180 + 57 + 63 = 300 students have Facebook or
Twitter accounts.
Let the student follow the steps in analyzing and solving problems involving
sets.
