Q1. A transformer on no-load has a core-loss of 50 W, draws a current of 2 A (rms)

and has an induced emf of 230 V (rms). Determine the no-load power factor, core-
loss current and magnetizing current. Also calculate the no-load circuit parameters of
the transformer. Neglect winding resistance and leakage flux.
[Answer: 0.108 lagging, 0.216 A, 1.988A, 0.945e-3 Ʊ, 8.64e-3 Ʊ]
Q2. A single phase transformer has 180 and 90 turns respectively in secondary and
primary winding. The respective resistances are 0.233 Ω and 0.067 Ω. Calculate
equivalent resistance of:
(a) Primary in terms of secondary winding
(b) Secondary in terms of primary winding
(c) Total resistance of transformer in terms of primary
[Answers: (a) 0.268 Ω (b) 0.058 Ω (c) 0.125 Ω]
Q3. A 33kVA, 2200/220 V, 50Hz single phase transformer has the following
parameters:
Primary winding (h.v. side): resistance r1 = 2.4 Ω; leakage reactance x1 = 6.00 Ω.
Secondary winding (l.v. side): resistance r2 = 0.03 Ω; leakage reactance x1 = 0.07 Ω.
(a) Find primary resistance and leakage reactance referred to secondary.
(b) Find the secondary resistance and leakage reactance referred to primary.
(c) Find the equivalent resistance and leakage reactance referred to (i) primary
and (ii) secondary
(d) Calculate the total ohmic loss at full load.
(e) Calculate the voltage to be applied to the h.v. side, in order to obtain a short
circuit current of 160 A in the l.v. winding. Under these conditions, find the
power input also.
