Chapter III
METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the research design and methodology, respondents of the study,
research instruments, data gathering procedure.
Research Design
In this study, quantitative methods will be used to conduct the research. The researcher chose a
descriptive correlational research design; it uses surveys to gather data. This method of research is
designed to gather information on conditions existing at a particular period to explore the Level of
awareness of selected drivers on traffic laws, rules, and regulations in Santiago City.
Respondents of the Study
The study involved 50 respondents from Traffic Law Enforcement in Santiago, City.
Likewise, 50 people who have registered vehicles were chosen to represent the drivers group
wherein 25 drivers from the NC drivers’ group, 25 drivers from Robinson drivers’ group to duly
represents drivers who are the usual drivers moving in or moving out in their Station. The overall
number of the respondents of the study were 50.
Sampling Technique
In selecting the respondents in this study, the researchers employed purposive sampling. A
purposive sampling is a sort of non-probability sample, also known as a judging sampler or expert
sampling. The basic goal of a purposive sampling is to create a sample that is logically representative
of the population. Often times, this is done by using expert population knowledge to select an
element sample that represents a cross-section of the population in a non-random way.
Research Locale
This study was conducted in the City of Santiago. It is a landlocked independent component
city in the coastal province of Isabela. The city has a land area of 255.50 square kilometers or 98.65
square miles which constitutes 1.95% of Isabela's total area. Its population as determined by the 2020
Census was 148,580. This represented 8.76% of the total population of Isabela province, or 4.03% of
the overall population of the Cagayan Valley region. Based on these figures, the population density
is computed at 582 inhabitants per square kilometer or 1,506 inhabitants per square mile.

Research Instruments
The primary instrument used in this study is survey questionnaire. The research instrument is
composed of two parts.
Part I of the research instrument consists of the items which gathers the demographic profile
of the respondents, such as their age and years as driver.
Part II of the research instrument consists of three sub-categories: The first category has 9-
item statements that gather the level of awareness about the traffic laws, rules, and regulations. The
second category represents the LTO form of 20 possible violations that gather the commonly
violated traffic laws, rules, and regulations. The third category is composed of 6-items statements
that gather the existing problems as perceived by the respondents.
Data Gathering Procedures
The researchers will create and write a letter addressed to the driver to conduct the study
concerning the level of awareness of traffic laws, rules, and regulations and then to ask permission in
conducting the study. Likewise, a letter of communication will be given also to the two overall
presidents of drivers of Northeastern college drivers and Robinson Drivers.
The researchers will determine the respondents using the total number of member in the
stations. Further, random sampling will be used also to determine the 25 drivers in the two group.
