INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
One of the worst-hit sectors is the restaurant industry. Covid-19 has caused problems
worldwide, not just in the Philippines. Several of the establishments were about to close. Yet,
only a few people managed to survive. As consistently reported and verified, in February and
March 2020, COVID-19 instances skyrocketed, according to more restaurant owners reported
fewer sales as compared to the same period in the preceding years and in 2019 (Vigilia et al.,
2021).
Similar to the Cabanatuan City restaurant industry, many people in Nueva Ecija,
Philippines, have chosen to shut down the company either permanently or temporarily due to
the current COVID-19 pandemic scenario. Nonetheless, eateries discovered strategies to
become more resilient in light of the fact that they could not afford to because they have lost
their main source of income they gave the banks a mortgage on their home. According to one
of the restaurant owners, "our restaurant is fostering commitment and partnerships for the
services and goods we offer. We advertise simply by reaching out to and assisting our
neighbors promotions using any online channel to get through obstacles especially now, during
the difficult COVID-19 epidemic (Shaffer, 2020).
Unlike government workers who continued to work from home, business owners totally
stopped because of the lockdown and massive spread of the virus. Work from home
government workers receive a salary to support their daily needs to support their family
compared to business owners who do not have any resources to produce income to support
their family needs.
To cope, food establishments were forced to innovate to continue serving their patrons,
maintain their workforce, and support their businesses as well as the industry (Statista
Research Department, 2023).
