ABSTRACT
Poverty in Nigeria is not something new and is quite disturbing. Both the
quantitative and qualitative measurements attest to the growing incidence and
depth of poverty in the country. This situation however, contrasts with the vast
human and physical resources that the country is endowed with. It is even more
disturbing that despite the huge human and material resources that have been
devoted to poverty reduction by successive governments in Nigeria, no
noticeable success has been achieved is this direction In embarking on the
project, the researcher made use of both primary and secondary sources of
data. These included questionnaire and interview (primary source) as well as
textbooks, journals, magazines and library (secondary sources). For the data
analysis, the simple percentage and tables were used. The findings revealed that
there is synergy between poverty and entrepreneurship was discussed as well as
ways of promoting entrepreneurship among Nigerians for Nation building. The
research work therefore recommended among others that, government and its
agencies should focus on ways of encouraging entrepreneurial culture and skill
in order to reduce poverty level in Nigeria and bring about more equitable
distribution of income and wealth thereby leading to sustainable economic
growth.

Disciplinary procedures are vital for maintaining organizational performance by providing clear guidelines for addressing misconduct and reinforcing expected behaviors. The document outlines that these procedures help preserve order, protect organizational values, and ensure consistent treatment across the workforce. By clearly defining consequences for indiscipline, organizations can enhance predictability and fairness, which in turn supports a more productive work environment .

The study recommends that to foster an entrepreneurial culture and reduce poverty, the government and its agencies should focus on creating supportive policies and infrastructure, providing accessible financial resources, and incorporating entrepreneurship education into curriculum frameworks. Encouraging partnerships between educational institutions and businesses can also enhance practical skill development, ultimately leading to increased entrepreneurial activities and economic opportunities for Nigerians .

The document underscores the importance of employee motivation in sustaining discipline and performance. Motivation serves as a preventive measure against indiscipline by aligning employee goals with organizational objectives. A motivated workforce is more committed, reduces the likelihood of misconduct, and enhances performance. Organizations can boost motivation through recognition programs, career development opportunities, and fair reward systems, thereby maintaining discipline and improving overall business performance .

The document discusses that while significant human and material resources have been deployed by successive Nigerian governments to reduce poverty, the outcomes have been negligible. However, there is a recognized synergy between poverty alleviation and entrepreneurship. Promoting entrepreneurship can lead to job creation, economic empowerment, and subsequently, poverty reduction. The research emphasizes the necessity for government and agencies to foster an entrepreneurial culture and develop skills among Nigerians to ensure equitable wealth distribution and sustainable growth .

The document reveals that disciplinary actions can have both positive and negative effects on employee performance. Positively, appropriate and fair disciplinary actions reinforce organizational norms and motivate employees to comply with expected behaviors. However, excessively harsh or inconsistent disciplinary measures may demoralize employees, reduce motivation, and lead to decreased performance. Balancing firmness with fairness is crucial to maintaining high employee performance .

The study employs the Bureaucracy Theory and McGregor's Theory X and Y to explain the dynamics of employee discipline and performance. Bureaucracy Theory emphasizes structured procedures and hierarchical management as essential for maintaining discipline. McGregor's Theory X and Y elucidate management's perception of employees as inherently lazy (Theory X) or inherently motivated (Theory Y), which affects disciplinary approaches. Understanding these theories helps organizations tailor their disciplinary methods to better align with employee perceptions and improve performance .

The study acknowledges limitations such as potential biases in data collection and constraints related to time and resources. It suggests overcoming these by expanding the sample size to include more diverse respondents, utilizing more comprehensive data analysis techniques, and ensuring a longer data collection period for more accurate results. Additionally, integrating more sophisticated statistical tools could enhance the reliability and validity of findings .

The study identifies several primary causes of employee indiscipline, including lack of motivation, inadequate supervision and leadership, unclear organizational policies, and environmental factors such as poor workplace conditions. These factors contribute to a lack of commitment and engagement among employees, leading to indiscipline .

Employee discipline is crucial in influencing business performance as it directly affects employee behavior and productivity. The study on Yisab Communication Lokoja indicates that disciplined employees tend to be more productive, committed, and aligned with organizational goals, resulting in enhanced business performance. In contrast, indiscipline may lead to decreased productivity, higher turnover rates, and increased costs related to managing behavioral issues .

The study utilizes both primary and secondary data sources, including questionnaires, interviews, textbooks, journals, and library resources. The mixed-method approach is appropriate as it allows for comprehensive data collection and analysis, providing robust evidence on how employee discipline affects business performance. Using simple percentage analysis and tables effectively presents findings, while also allowing for hypothesis testing and discussion of results .
