My name’s Helga and I’m a teacher at a ‘Gymnasium’ (a type of secondary school). I live and
work in Berlin but I wasn’t born here. I grew up in Hamburg in the north of Germany and I
moved to Berlin when I went to university. I’ve lived here for seven years now. I prefer living in
Berlin because there are more things to do here and it’s a very lively city but sometimes I miss
my parents in Hamburg. At university I studied English and I had a great time! While I was
studying I met my future husband, Sebastian (he was studying engineering at the same
university). We got married after university and now we have two sons, Kristof and Lars.
When I’m not working I like playing sport. I got interested in football at university and I’ve
been playing it ever since. I play for a local women’s team near my house. We train once a week
and play a match every weekend. Sometimes I go back to Hamburg to visit my parents but
these days I’m so busy working and looking after the boys that I don’t have enough time, so I
can’t go as often as I’d like. I’m looking forward to my next holiday when I can relax and have
some more free time!
