Structures?
The Definition of “Family” has
changed and will continue to change
as lifestyles, social norms, and
standards are also shifting.
According to Merriam Webster Online
Dictionary, A family is “a group of
individuals living under one roof and
usually under one head.” Which can
also refer to a household.
Filipino Sociologist Belen T. G. Medina,
Defined Family as “Two or More Persons
who share resources, share responsibility
for decisions, share values and goals and
have a commitment to ask each other
over time”.
“Call it a clan, call it a network,
call it a tribe, call it a family.
Whatever you call it, whoever
you are, you need one.”

Different types of
Families
1. The Nuclear Or Traditional Family
The nuclear family consists
of a mother, father, and
their biological children.
An adopted child can also
be considered as part of
the nuclear/traditional
family.
2. Single-Parent Family
A single parent is someone
who is unmarried, widowed, or
divorced and not remarried.
The single-parent household
can be headed by a mother, a
father, a grandparent, an
uncle, or aunt.
3. Extended Family
is a family that extends
beyond the nuclear family of
parents and their children to
include aunts, uncles,
grandparents, cousins or other
relatives, all living nearby or in
the same household.
4. Childless Family
is a family that extends
beyond the nuclear family of
parents and their children to
include aunts, uncles,
grandparents, cousins or other
relatives, all living nearby or in
the same household.
