The set is the same of those in Act 1 and 3 but 2 years later.

There is a bed covered by a sheet - the

Monster’s bride – and, it is covered by many complex wires, like those in Act 1. There is a machine in
the corner of the room – it is on top of a table, and is slowly [Link] windows are closed ; The
shutters are open, and the fireplace flickers gently with [Link] room light flickers as Frankenstein
works.

The window opens slowly, and the Monster enters the room silently. Frankenstein does not realise
him. He creeps up to the sheet, and stands there silently. Frankenstein turns but doesn’t notice him,
but after walking closer, he sees the Monster and scowls.

Frankenstein: What are you doing here, you beast? I have kept my promise to make your bride, and

Monster: Silence, Frankenstein. It has been 2 years and I have kept my promise.

Frankenstein: You creature, I will kill you!

Frankenstein launches himself at the Monster, but he easily dodges and Frankenstein crashes into a
work bench.

Monster: I wouldn’t do that, Frankenstein. I have become more agile after 2 years, running,
surviving, hiding all on my own! I have been waiting for this day, so I can live with my bride and I will
not have to suffer alone!

Frankenstein gets up from his daze, and slowly stands up and turns toward the Monster.

Frankenstein: I will only finish if I work in peace. Not in the disturbing presence of a beast. I created
you to do good, and look at what I have made? A horrible figure that is the fear of the town below.

Monster: If that is what you want, I will leave you. But if you are not done by the end of today, there
will be consequences!

He leaps out of the open window, laughing maliciously as he strides off.

Monster: By the end of the day!

Frankenstein: That was… disturbing. I should finish it before today. I’m going to take a break.

He picks up a flask of water, opens the door, and walks off

All is silent except for the sound of the machine, and the flickering lights. Not soon after, the door
clicks open, and in come Elizabeth and Clerval. Elizabeth is wearing a travellers cloak, with a lamp in
her hand. Clerval follows her slowly, with a musket at the ready. He is wearing a thick over coat.

Elizabeth peaks her head through the side of the door, making sure no one is there. She creeps in,
Clerval behind, and sets her lamp on Frankenstein’ desk. She relaxes slightly, but Clerval is still tense.

Elizabeth: Hurry! He might be coming back any minute now!

Clerval: Panic not, I saw him walking on the streets downstairs. He won’t be back in 40 minutes.
She relaxes a bit more.

Elizabeth: And to think that he would be back so soon…

Clerval: We must not let him finish! If he does, who knows what might happen. He’s trapped himself
in this room for 2 years now, mademoiselle, only you can talk sense into him.

Clerval suddenly notices the white sheet covering a figure, and his expression is transfixed with
shock.

Clerval: Oh no, no, no!

Elizabeth: What’s the matter Henri?

Clerval: I think I know what he’s trying to do!

Elizabeth: 2 years, Henri! He’s been in here for 2 years! And to forbid anyone from coming in… he
must be up to something. He hasn’t been like this until William died… Is he mad?

Clerval: No… I don’ think he’ mad, in fact, he’s a pure genius in what he does, a phenomenon to the
scientific age.

Elizabeth: If that’ what you say, then I’ll believe you. But a genius should be happy with his work,
shouldn’t he? He’s looked this room for ages. Luckily I knew where to search for the key, under his
door mat.

Clerval: Not If this is his work

Elizabeth: but what could he be doing, what—

She stops abruptly. She sees the white sheet covering a bed, and she walks slowly towards it.

Elizabeth: What’s that?

She walks faster.

Clerval: Don’t touch it!

He grabs onto Elizabeth, and pulls her away.

Elizabeth: Then tell me! Tell me what’s going on!

Clerval: Victor is creating life

She stops struggling and stares at Clerval.

Elizabeth: What?

Clerval: He told me, quite some time ago, that he was trying to make life. He showed me an
example, by making a dead persons hand move before my eyes! It was genius, pure genius. I
remember him talking about lightning, and how he was going to create a living being, and—
The Monster swings in to the room via the open window. Elizabeth screams and Clerval grabs his
musket, pointing it at the Monster’s head.

Monster: What are you doing here? Where is Herr Frankenstein?

Clerval: No where here you foul Monster, but you shall not pass!

Monster: He sent you to do this?

Clerval: No, we came here in our own terms.

Monster: Then leave me alone! I have come to collect my bride!

Realisation dawns on Clerval face, he is shocked beyond belief. He loads his musket, and shoots that
Monster in the arm. The Monster howls.
