Title: Christmas: A Holiday of Love, Faith, and Gratitude
When hearing the word Christmas, most people are excited with the thought of carols,
gifts, celebrations, parties, and, most importantly, foods. With blinking lights and beautifully
crafted Christmas lanterns adding color to every community, the spirit of Christmas is easily felt
in September, the first of the winter months, making it a very long season to spend. Christmas,
being the season of family bonding, festive traditions, and gift-giving, makes it the best holiday.
Christmas unites families around the world, making it a perfect holiday for family get-
togethers and bonding. When the Christmas holidays are fast approaching, every family plans
not only the best meals they will eat on Christmas Eve but also the foods that their relatives will
love when they celebrate Christmas together. From adobo, caldereta, keso de bola, spaghetti,
fried chicken, lumpia, and many more, Filipinos do feast with these foods while doing
"kumustahan," making the atmosphere more memorable and fun. Aside from food, families also
do out-of-town trips for swimming, vacation, and even simple things like belting out Christmas
songs together in the videoke, which is a fun activity as well. No matter what kind of family
bonding it is, what is more important is the thought of togetherness.
Festive traditions like Christmas parties, 'Simbang Gabi' and carolings also make
Christmas a remarkable holiday. Filipinos have this innate love of celebrations and parties, and
who would not if it was all about having fun and getting together? Christmas parties, be it with
families or classmates, are always fun as they provide an experience of gift giving and receiving
as well as appreciation for one another. Also, in some of the days before Christmas, there is this
spiritual tradition of 'Simbang Gabi' where people attend church masses for nine days. It is where
people celebrate Christmas with faith and love for God. Just as these nine days of mass begin,
the tradition of caroling starts as well, where children would sing Christmas carols in every
house near their community in exchange for 'aguinaldo', which is a token of appreciation for the
efforts of the ones who sang. With all of these traditions, Christmas gives off an energy that
makes it hard for people to forget and easy for people to remember.
As people usually call it, Christmas is a holiday of gift giving and receiving, where
people share simple gifts and receive them as a symbol of love and appreciation. Aside from the
gifts received from Christmas parties, Christmas urges people to show love and appreciation to
other people by giving thoughtful gifts without expecting something in return. People indeed
love opening packages from people, and they feel special and remembered when they receive
one. With this feeling, a domino effect takes place, causing them to give to other people as well.
Moreover, aside from material things, love and gratitude are also gifts worth receiving, and this
is what makes Christmas special—a season to strengthen love and humanity, where people
radiate positive energy such as love and appreciation.
Christmas highlights the concepts of love, gratitude, faith, and appreciation, and with
family get-togethers, festive traditions, and gift giving, its essence is highly strengthened from its
roots. This is the reason why most people look forward to this type of holiday season, as we are
all longing for togetherness, happiness in traditions, and the feeling of being remembered and
appreciated by receiving any form of gift. There is not a single season that can outshine the
feeling that Christmas gives, as this is the best way to end the year, which is with faith, love, and
gratitude. Christmas, above all other holidays, is the best way to showcase things that people
sometimes fail to receive. Christmas empowers and strengthens hearts and minds as it revolves
around the concepts of faith and love, which are, above all, the greatest among other things.
