NARRATIVE REPORT

1ST RESEARCH CULMINATING ACTIVITY

The month of January symbolizes a new door of the beginnings but for students, it can

also be a month dedicated to global science. The Senior High School science teachers at

Muntinlupa National High School organized a research culminating activity for Grade 12

students on the 20th day of January 2023. The STEM students presented their original and

innovative ideas by utilizing the resources that are available in the community and turning them

into something more useful. All high school students were welcomed to participate and join in

the one-day capstone activity at MNHS that occurred in the Science, Technology, Engineering,

and Mathematics (STEM) Building.

The seven different class sections of the academic strand of STEM—1201, 1202, 1203,

1204, 1205, 1206, and 1207—have been assigned to specific locations along the hallway. The

day started with the students decorating their booths during their morning hours. The students

used recycled materials such as paper, kartons, bottles, containers, and cardboard in

developing and designing their booth. It demonstrates how creative and resourceful the STEM

students are. For the purpose of promoting their research, the students displayed their initial

materials, finished product, promotional video, and tarpaulin (also regarded as "tarpapel"). Two

members of each research group were tasked with presenting their research study, and one

was given the task of recording the event.

Mr. Ezekiel Abraham Ramos from STEM 1207 and Ms. Nuella Ramos from STEM 1205,

who served as emcees, started the program at 12:30 p.m. Ms. Loverene Dale Oribiada from

STEM 1202 led a brief hymn of thanksgiving to God to ask for a guidance in doing the research
culminating activity. The STEM students were then enthusiastically welcomed and thanked by

Mrs. Lyric Bantilles for their dedication and hard work in making the activity possible. She also

thanked the parents who provided the financial support required for the accomplishment as well

as the research advisers who had helped the students along the way.

After the touching introduction, the exhibit proper has begun. The various panelists are

assigned with the different STEM sections who will receive grades from them. The panelists

assigned to facilitate the section 1201 through 1207 were Mrs. Pascual, Mr. Gonzales, Mrs.

Andaya, Mr. Balistoy, Mrs. Bautista, Mrs. Bantilles, and Mrs. De Leon, respectively. The panelist

graded the presenters' overall performance using a set of criteria. They are looking for the

presenters to provide a clear illustration and explanation of the questions, hypothesis, variables,

investigative design, experimental procedure, presentation of results, conclusion, summary, and

references.

Mr. Gamuzaran and Mr. Marcos judged the other student-made materials, such as the

booth and promotional video. The tarpaulin was also evaluated by Ms. Kash and Mr. Del

Mundo.

Mrs. Daisy Delos Santos concluded the research culminating activity by offering her

congratulatory final remarks around 4:00 pm. She mentioned in her speech that everyone's

assistance was necessary for the activity to be successful. During the aforementioned activity,

all of the students and teachers had a great opportunity to share their thoughts, information, and

abilities. It ended with a round of applause for the hardworks and effort. The 1st Research

Culminating Activity has been a great success and has effectively served its purpose.

Different members of the school community played crucial roles in ensuring the smooth running of the event. Teachers organized and coordinated the activity, guided students in their research development, and served as evaluators. Students prepared and presented their research while also collaborating in teams for varied roles. Parents provided financial support to facilitate the event's logistics and materials. Collectively, these contributions created an environment conducive to learning and knowledge sharing, underscoring the collaborative framework necessary for educational success .

The primary objectives of the research culminating activity were to provide Grade 12 STEM students at Muntinlupa National High School an opportunity to present original and innovative ideas by utilizing community resources, showcasing creativity and resourcefulness, and sharing research outcomes. These objectives were fulfilled as students actively participated in presenting their projects using recycled materials, demonstrated creativity and environmental awareness in booth design, and shared their research findings through booths, promotional videos, and tarpaulins. Teachers, parents, and research advisers also supported the activity, ensuring a successful event as noted in Mrs. Daisy Delos Santos's concluding speech .

Teachers contributed to the success of the research culminating event by organizing the activity, guiding students throughout their research, and serving as panelists to evaluate the students' presentations based on specific criteria. Parents contributed by offering the financial support needed to accomplish the event. Their combined efforts provided the necessary resources and encouragement, ensuring that students had the means and motivation to participate effectively, as highlighted in the opening remarks and closing speech by Mrs. Lyric Bantilles and Mrs. Daisy Delos Santos, respectively .

The activity highlights interdisciplinary learning by requiring students to integrate knowledge from various STEM fields to develop and present their research projects. This is evident as students worked on projects utilizing scientific and mathematical principles, employed engineering skills for booth construction, and applied technology in creating promotional materials like videos. It emphasizes the interconnectedness of different STEM disciplines and encourages students to apply a broad skill set, promoting a holistic understanding and problem-solving approach .

Utilizing community resources in research projects is significant as it encourages students to identify and leverage local materials creatively, promoting sustainability and cost-effectiveness. By utilizing recycled materials such as paper, bottles, and cardboard, students demonstrated environmental responsibility and resourcefulness. This approach not only reduced expenses but also sensitized students to the importance of sustainability, offering practical insights into addressing global ecological concerns. Such practices instill civic responsibility and innovation, important for real-world problem-solving .

The research culminating activity at MNHS exemplifies experiential learning by allowing students to engage in hands-on research projects, apply their knowledge to develop solutions using local resources, and actively participate in presenting their findings. This method of learning potentially increases student engagement by providing authentic learning experiences that connect theoretical knowledge with practical application. The activity's structure, which includes creating presentations, designing booths with recycled materials, and evaluating peer work, fosters deep involvement and the development of communication, teamwork, and creative problem-solving skills .

The panelists used evaluative criteria that included the clarity of illustration and explanation of the research questions, hypothesis, variables, investigative design, experimental procedure, presentation of results, conclusion, summary, and references. Additionally, other aspects such as the booth and promotional videos were judged separately by Mr. Gamuzaran and Mr. Marcos, while the tarpaulin was evaluated by Ms. Kash and Mr. Del Mundo .

The research culminating activity fostered collaboration among students by requiring them to work in groups to present their research, design booths, and create promotional materials such as videos and tarpaulins. Evidence of resourcefulness is showcased by their use of recycled materials like paper, bottles, and cardboard for booth decoration. Collaboration was further evident as students took on specific roles, such as presenters and recorders, within their groups, highlighting the team effort involved in successfully completing their projects .

The organization of the activity promoted creativity by challenging students to utilize recycled materials to design visually appealing and functional booths, thereby encouraging innovative thinking. The task of developing promotional videos and tarpaulins also provided students with opportunities to devise creative ways to effectively communicate their research findings. This environment fostered an inventive mindset, as students had to think outside traditional methods to solve problems and present data engagingly .

Student-centered activities like the research culminating event significantly enhance the educational experience by making learning more interactive, engaging, and relevant to students' interests. These activities empower students to take ownership of their learning, develop critical thinking and decision-making skills, and apply theoretical concepts in practical scenarios. Additionally, such activities encourage collaboration, communication, and innovation, which are essential skills for future academic and professional endeavors. By centering on students' contributions and creativity, the event fosters a more dynamic and inclusive education environment .
