Vijayanagara Empire Overview

Vijayanagara was founded during the reign of the Sangama dynasty in the 14th century. It was established by Harihara I and Bukka I on the banks of the Tungabhadra River. The empire rose to prominence under the rule of Krishnadevaraya in the 16th century and was known for its religious tolerance, flourishing trade, and magnificent architecture at its capital city of Hampi. However, the Vijayanagara Empire declined after its defeat at the Battle of Talikota in 1565 against the Deccan Sultanates.
