THE
EVIDENCE OF
EVOLUTION
ESSENTIAL LEARNING PURPOSES:
● M: Explain how populations of organisms have changed and
continue to change over time showing patterns of descent with
modification from common ancestors to produce the organismal
diversity observed today.
● A: Describe the present system of classification of organisms is
based on evolutionary relationships.
● M: Categorize the different biotic potential and environmental
resistance that affect population explosion.
● T: Design a poster tracing the evolutionary changes in a crop plant
that occurred through domestication.
THE PROCESS OF EVOLUTION
● Evolution - is the change in inherited characteristics of a
species over a period.
● Natural selection – is the mechanism where organisms with
favorable traits suited to the environment survive, reproduce,
and pass on traits to the next generation.
● Fossils are the remains of the remains of those organisms
before catastrophe.
● Speciation -or the evolution of a new species

Freshwater Ecosystem
Freshwater ecosystem is divided into two types: flowing water ecosystems and
standing water ecosystem. Rivers, creeks, streams, and brooks are all flowing
water ecosystem (Lotic).
They start from a ground water source and flow over land going downstream.
Standing water ecosystem (Lentic) include ponds and lakes. The still waters
are home to planktons and insects and are feeding places for birds and
animals nearby ecosystem.
Wetlands are ecosystems where water covers either the soil or is present at or
near the soil surface during a certain part of the year. Wetlands are important
ecosystems since they serve as feeding grounds for migratory birds and
animals from nearby ecosystems, and breeding grounds for many organisms
like reptiles, amphibians, and fishes.
The three types of freshwater water lands are bogs, marshes, and swamps.
Bogs are depression left by ice sheets thousands of years ago. Marshes are
shallow areas along rivers. They grow grass-like plants. Swamps are like
flooded forest with tall trees through which water flows slowly
