(e) If necessary, wipe up excess adhesive with clean
paper.
C. Maintaining Continuity of Adhesion Throughout the Jumbo Coil
(1) To maintain continuity of adhesion throughout the
Jumbo coil, the following procedures shall be followed:
(a) The ILV and OLV windings shall use .007 42365DE
paper as layer insulation.
(b) The HV shall use .007 42365AE paper (uncuffed)
plus necessary thickness of 42365AE paper (upper
most piece cuffed) as layer insulation.

3. CATCHING-UP_TURNS
A. Conditions
(2) In any strap or wire winding, turns may be caught up
to eliminate a partially filled last layer in any
winding or section not containing part coils if the
following conditions are met:
(a) The layer to be eliminated is less than 25%
filled with turns as listed on the L-Spec.
(b) The L-spec is functionally nunbered with an "A"
in field 10 of the number and one of the
characters marked by * on drawing 608C402 in
field 11 of the number.
(2) If the above conditions are not met, contact Product
Design Engineering for approval before catching-up
tums.
B. Method
(1) Turns are caught up by winding more turns per layer
than ordered by the L-spec. This may be possible due
to the conductor being smaller than the maximum
dimensions allowed or the layer insulation being wider
than the minimum dimension allowed when designing the
coil. Note that dimension tolerances for conductor
(per material specification) and layer insulation (per
functional nunber drawing) must be maintained.
(2) Margin or cuff as specified by the L-spec must be
maintained when catching-up turns.
(3) The full number of turns ordered by the L-spec must be
wound - no turns may be left out in order to eliminate
a partially filled layer.

TOLERANCES AND TURNS COUNT
q)
(2)
Standards and Coil Design
ANSI standards allow the ratio of transformers to vary
by one half of one percent or one turn (whichever is
greater) from the rated ratio. This same tolerance
may be applied to parallel windings on a given coil.
Coils are designed to meet the rated ratio to the
nearest turn.
B. Tolerances on L-Spec Turn Count
qa)
As a general rule, the HV winding may vary by + one
turn from the L-spec between any two adjacent
(sequentially numbered) leads (start, finish or tap)
for each 250 turns between the two leads with the
following qualifications.
(a) On series (single voltage) coils, rule (1)
applies.
(b) On series (single voltage) coils with taps, a
variation of one turn between taps (where the
number of turns is usually less than 250) is
sometimes acceptable. Consult Product Design
Engineering for T-connected coils or coils having
less than four taps. For single phase, three
phase triplex, or three phase five-legged coils
having four taps, variations between taps are
permissible if the variations cause each of the
measured sums of turns listed below to be off by
no more than one turn for each 250 turns listed
for the same sum on the L-spec:

~ (d) On series-parallel (dual or triple voltage) coils having
turns variations in more than one section or part coil but
with the turns variations all in the same direction (i.e.
too many turns in every case or too few turns in every
case), tule (1) applies.
(e) On series-parallel (dual or triple voltage) coils having
turns variations in more than one section or part coil
where the variations are not all in the same direction,
consult Product Design Engineering.
(2) For turns variations in the LV winding, consult Product Design
Engineering (note that turns variations in the LV winding rated
600 volts or less are usually not acceptable).

5. MEASURE OF OVER-ALL COIL OIMENSIONS
A, Wound Dimensions
(1) Wound dimensions specify the dimensions of the smallest
rectangle (with sides parallel to the mould) that will fit over
the coil. See Figure 32 page 106 for measurement locations.
B. Diagonal.
(1) The diagonal specifies the diameter of the smallest circle that
will fit over the coil. See Figure 32 page 106 for measurement
location.
(2) The location of the diagonal varies from coil-to-coil;
therefore, some searching may be necessary to find the
diagonal:’ See Figure 32 page 106 for details.
(3) Note that the diagonal is NEVER less than the long wound
dimension.

6. STRAP LV WINDING WITH ODD NUMBER OF LAYERS
A. General
a)
This section applies to strap LV windings for LV ratings of 600
volts or less under the following conditions only:
(a) A LHL coil with an odd number of layers in both the ILV
and the OLV (i.e, 3 layers in ILv and 3 layers in OLV).
(b) A LH coil with an odd number of layers in the LV or an odd
‘umber of layers in each LV section.
B. Winding Method for LHL Coils
qa)
(2)
(3)
(4)
Place the first turn of the ILV on the right and wind down the
first layer.
With odd layers, the winding will proceed down the last layer,
so the last turn of the ILV will be on the left.
Place the first turn of the OLV on the left and wind up the
first layer.
With odd layers, the winding will proceed up the last layer, so
the last turn of the OLV will be on the right.
C. Winding Method for LH Coils
q)
(2)
One LV Section
(a) Place the first turn of the LV on the right and wind down
the first layer.
(b) With odd layers, the winding will proceed down the last
layer, so the last turn of the LV will be on the left.
Two LV Sections
(a) Place the first turn of each section on the right and wind
down the first layer of each section.

D. Leads
(1) Leads will exit from the winding as specified on the L-spec.
£. Insulation for Leads Crossing the Winding
(1) Depending on the lead location specified on the L-spec, the
lead may cross turns of the winding. When this occurs,
insulation and/or support as noted below shall be applied.
(2) If the lead crosses turns of its winding, place over the start
lead or under the finish lead and three pieces of .010 KP.
(3) If a strap lead crossing the winding is located adjacent to an
all around duct (i.e. only turns of paper between the lead and
the duct), place a piece of .125 thick pressboard, .75" wide
and long enough to extend across the winding space, between the
two ductsticks that fall on either side of the lead (to prevent
the lead from collapsing into the duct).
