JOURNAL
1st week The tutorial starts off with an icebreaking session where groups of 6 are formed and that we have to introduce ourselves amongst one another to better understand the members. After the icebreaking session the lecturer starts to discuss about the tutorials and encourages the groups to partake on a discussion activity mainly to get everyone involved in decision makings such as who gets to present the group answers. Later the lecturer would discuss on a few questions regarding the tutorials. Last but not least, the team based game of constructing a paper made tower and forming a group name with its respective slogan is carried on before leaving the class. 2nd week We begin with Week 3s tutorial question 2- group development, process and structure. The first discussion was related to the changing trends as a result of global financial crisis and we came out with both lifestyle and economic trends. The next question would be related to informal groups as well as the cohesiveness of teams. We came up with study and social informal groups and we thought that the cohesiveness is low and one of the major remedies to that would be to ensure that the team will not have any free riders. The last question regarding Tuckmans model which involves the forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning stage was later discussed. There is also a self-assessment on whether a person is a team player consisting of the encourager, gatekeeper, harmoniser, initiator or summariser. In the assessment I scored a 12 as an encourager. Other than that the lecturer gave a quick lecture on the psychological contracts iceberg model. 3rd Week We had a new member though he has not attended the tutorials for the
past two weeks. We did a quick ice breaking and found out that his name is Andrea. Though for the first time, all of us get along and adapt pretty well. The first thing we did is filling the group charter such as the preferred and least preferred methods of communicating with one another this semester, how often should the team meet together, is it OK to miss a group meeting and what are the consequences if the group members are absent. Its like setting a norm for the team with of course acceptable standards. The next thing we did was to draw our hand on a piece of paper and writing down events or people that have affected our lives on each of our drawn fingers. We are later encouraged to speak out about the things we have listed more like to get along and know better on one another. Some were shy especially the girls while a few are outspoken. Next, we all agreed that emotional intelligence is more important than cognitive intelligence. We also completed the EI test and I got an average EI result of 27. The lecturer later gave us a small lecture
