Preference

Preference merupakan suatu ungkapan yang digunakan untuk menyatakan kesukaan atau dapat juga
digunakan untuk meminta pendapat akan sesuatu.

1. Prefer … to ….
Polanya : Subjek + prefer + V-ing + to + V-ing

Contoh Kalimat :
a) I prefer staying at home to going out. (Aku lebih suka menetap di rumah daripada keluar)
b) She prefers hanging out with you to hanging out with me. (Dia lebih suka jalan-jalan denganmu
daripada jalan-jalan denganku)
c) My father prefered reading the newspaper to watching the TV at that time. (Ayahku lebih suka
membaca koran daripada menonton TV pada waktu itu)

2. Like … better than ….


Polanya : Subjek + like + V-ing + better than + V-ing

Contoh Kalimat :
a) They like fishing better than hiking. (Mereka lebih suka memancing daripada mendaki)
b) My mother like shopping better than cooking. (Ibuku lebih suka berbelanja daripada memasak)
c) Aurel and Nanda like studying better than cheating while doing the exam. (Aurel dan Nanda lebih
suka belajar daripada mencontek ketika mengerjakan ujian)

3. Would prefer … rather than ….


Polanya : Subjek + would prefer + to infinitive + rather than + V-1

Contoh Kalimat :
a) My uncle would prefer to go to the musuem rather than go to the zoo. (Pamanku lebih suka pergi
ke musium daripada pergi ke kebun binatang)
b) I would prefer to do the dishes rather than do the laundry. (Aku lebih suka mencuci piring daripada
mencuci pakaian)
c) She would prefer to do the housework rather than do the homework. (Dia lebih suka mengerjakan
pekerjaan rumah tangga daripada mengerjakan PR sekolah)

4. Would rather … than ….


Polanya : Subjek + would rather + V-1 + than + V1

Contoh Kalimat :
a) Ardy would rather work as a Manager than go into business. (Ardy lebih suka bekerja sebagai
manajer daripada terjun ke dunia bisni)
b) Siska would rather shop in the traditional market than shop in the mall. (Siska lebih suka berbelanja
di pasar tradisional daripada berbelanja di mal)
c) My friend would rather play the video game than study for the exam tomorrow. (Temanku lebih suka
bermain video game daripada belajar untuk ujian besok)
