/Motivation: Palahang to lead the prayer? Okay Sir

(Bowing their heads)

Good morning, Class!

Good morning, Sir!
Before you sit, kindly pick up the pieces of paper
and arrange your chairs properly.

For your attendance, your Quiz will be served as

your attendance for today’s lesson.

How are you today?

Okay, Sir!

Okay Good to hear.

To refresh your memory from our past lesson, let We’re fine, Sir!
us have an activity, entitled.

Review

“PICK A COLOR”
Listen to the mechanics.
1. I have here a color, each color has a question.
I will select a student to come here in front to
pick a color and answer the question written on
it.
2. You need to evaluate the given function in
each color.

Are the mechanics clear class?

Now, Let's start with

Questions:
Evaluate the given Function.
1. f(x) = x2+2x+4, find f(2).
2. g(x) = 2x+3, find g(-3)
3. p(x)= 3x+2, find p(2)
4. q(x)= x+5, find q(-3)

Based on the activity we had a while ago, what

was our last topic last meeting?

Our topic last meeting sir was

That’s great, it was all about Evaluating all about Evaluating Function
Functions.

Motivation

Now, at this moment let’s have another activity.

“PERFORM TO MIXED ME”

A while ago we evaluated different functions.

Now, as you observe each function has a color.

In this activity, the instructions are as follows.

1. Combine the two given colors.

2. Pick a color that will result if you combine the

given colors.

3. Identify what operation being use.

This is the first set of Colors.

If you combine the colors what will be the

operation, you use?

Very good!

Second set of colors. Color green.

Addition, sir.
What operation do you use?

Great job!

How about we reverse the situation?

Color orange.

Addition again sir.

This time what operation do you use?

How about this one?

Color yellow sir.

Subtraction sir.

Very good, I am glad that you had fun! We all

know that those colors are primary colors and if
you combine you can create another color. But Color red, and we use
what subject did you learn about the subtraction as an operation sir.
combination of colors?

Very good that you really pay attention in your

Mapeh class.

So, based on our activity a while ago, who has

an idea what will be our topic this morning?
Mapeh, sir.

“Excellent!”

UNLOCKING OF DIFFICULTIES

Before discussing our topic, let’s unlock first

those difficult words that we might encounter
during our discussion proper. But you need to Addition and Subtraction of
match Column A to Column B. In column A it Functions, sir.
is the definition of the word while in column B
are those words that represent the definition.

Now, I will give you 1 minute to answer.

Column A Column B

1. It refers to an operation
that combines two
functions to produce a sum a. Coefficient
or total.

2. It refers to an operation b. Addition

that finds the difference
between two functions.
c. Subtraction
3. it refers to a numerical or
constant factor that is
multiplied by a variable or
term in an expression or
equation.

Excellent!

B. Establishing a purpose for the This morning we will be discussing the Addition
lesson. and Subtraction of Functions. Then, this will be
our objective that we need to achieve this
morning.

To start our discussion let us know first what

Operations of Functions is.

Operations of Functions- It is like an operation

on numbers. That involving two functions that
will result another function.

Now, how many operations do we have?

Four, sir

Very Good! We have four fundamental

operations but at this moment we will focus on
two operations, and these are the Addition and
Subtraction.

To perform those operations of functions, you

need to recall also your knowledge of how to
add and subtract as well as how to evaluate
functions.

C. Presenting examples/Instances For you to know deeply, how to perform those (Students listen attentively)
of the new lesson operations in a function let us try the following
examples.

Directions: Perform how to Add and Subtract

functions.

Example 1:
1. Add the two functions, f(x) and g(x).
f(x) = x2+2x+4
g(x) = 2x+3

To answer this problem. I have here a step to

follow for you to make it easier.

Solution:

Step 1: Combine the two functions using

Addition or Subtraction.

(f+g)(x) = f(x) + g(x)

(f-g) (x) = f(x) – g(x)

Step 2: Substitute the value of each function.

f(x) g(x)
(f+g)(x)= (x2+2x+4) + (2x+3)

Step 3: Distribute the positive sign to the second

function.

(f+g)(x)= (x2+2x+4) + (2x+3)

= x2+2x+4 + 2x + 3

Step 4: Combine like terms.

(f+g)(x)= (x2+2x+4) + (2x+3)

= x2+2x+4 + 2x + 3
(f+g)(x)= x2+ 4x + 7 – Final Answer

2. Subtract the two functions, p(x) and q(x).

p(x)= 3x+2
q(x)= x-5

Solution:
(p-q) (x) = p(x) – q(x)
p(x) q(x)
(p-q)(x)= (3x+2) - (x-5)
= 3x + 2 -x+5
(p-q)(x)=2x + 7 – Final Answer

How about we have a value of our x, how do we

perform the operation to evaluate such a
function?

Let us try.

Example 3.
3. Add the two functions, f(x) and g(x).
f(x) = x2+2x+4
g(x) = 2x+3
if the value of x= 3

To answer this problem. Do all the steps then

perform the last step which is?

Step 5: Substitute the value of x based on the

value of each function.

Solution:

(f+g)(x)= (x2+2x+4) + (2x+3)

(f+g)(x)= (x2+2x+4) + (2x+3)
= x2+2x+4 + 2x + 3
= (x2+2x+4) + (2x+3)
= x2+2x+4 + 2x + 3
(f+g)(3) = x2+ 4x + 7
= (3)2 + 4(3) + 7
= 9 +12+7
(f+g)(3) = 28 – Final Answer

4. Subtract the two functions, p(x) and q(x).

p(x)= 3x+2
q(x)= x-5
If the value of x = -2
Solution:
(p-q) (x) = p(x) – q(x)
(p-q)(x)= (3x+2) - (x-5)
= 3x + 2 -x+5
=2x + 7
(p-q)(-2)=2(-2) + 7
= -4 + 7
= 3 -Final answer

Now, questions on how to perform operations of

functions.

That’s great to hear! None, sir.

Now, this time I need a volunteer to perform an

operations of function here at the board.
D. Discussing new concepts and Activity: “Substitute Me”

4. Find (q-p) (x), if f(x)= x+6 and

G. Making generalizations and What was our topic today? Our topic was all about
abstractions about the lesson Addition and Subtraction of
Functions.
Addition and Subtraction are important
operations? Why?
(Answers may vary.)

Excellent!
H. Finding practical application of Activity: “Hunt Me”
concepts and skills in daily living.
Mechanics:
1. The same group that you have earlier.
2. Each station has a question that you need to
answer.
3. After you completed the 4 stations you need to
form a word that will be based on the answer in
every station.

Let’s begin to hunt.
