Diagnosing Intermittent Issues in SFI

This document provides instructions for diagnosing intermittent problems with the SFI system. It recommends putting the vehicle's ECM in check mode to use 1 trip detection logic instead of 2 trip detection logic, increasing sensitivity to detect faults and make intermittent problems easier to detect. It lists steps to clear DTCs, put the ECM in check mode, perform a simulation test, check connectors and terminals, and wiggle harnesses while monitoring for detected issues.

CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS

Hand–held tester only:
By putting the vehicle’s ECM in the check mode, the 1 trip detection logic is possible instead of the
2 trip detection logic, and the sensitivity to detect faults is increased. This makes it easier to detect
intermittent problems.
(a) Clear the DTCs (See page 05–9).
(b) Set the check mode (See page 05–11).
(c) Perform a simulation test (See page 01–20).
(d) Check the connector and terminal (See page 01–30).
(e) Wiggle the harness and connector (See page 01–30).
