Class 10 - Mathematics
Basic Sample Paper - 01 (2023-24)

Solution

Section A
1. (a) 233
Explanation: We know that A prime number is a whole number greater than 1 whose only two whole-number factors
which are 1 and itself. e.g. 2, 23, 29 ...
233 has only two factors = 1 × 233
Because 233 has only two factors 1 and itself i.e 233, so it's a prime number.
2. (b) coprime
Explanation: We know that the co-prime numbers have no factor in common, or, their HCF is 1.
Thus, p2 and q2 have the same factor with exponent 2 each. which again will not have any common factor.
Thus we can conclude that p2 and q2 are co-prime numbers.
To practice more questions & prepare well for exams, download myCBSEguide App. It provides complete study
material for CBSE, NCERT, JEE (main), NEET-UG and NDA exams. Teachers can use Examin8 App to create similar
papers with their own name and logo.
3. (c) 1 or 4
Explanation: Since the roots are equal, we have D = 0.
∴ 4(k + 2)2 - 36k = 0 ⇒ {k + 2)2 - 9k = 0
k2 - 5k + 4 = 0 ⇒ k2 - 4k - k + 4 = 0
⇒ k(k − 4) − (k − 4) = 0

⇒ (k − 4)(k − 1) = 0 ⇒ k = 4 or k = 1 .
4. (b) parallel
Explanation: We have,
6x - 2y + 9 = 0
And, 3x - y + 12 = 0
Here, a1 = 6, b1 = - 2 and c1 = 9
a2 = 3, b2 = - 1 and c2 = 12
c1
and
a1 6 2 b1 −2 2 9 3
= = , = = = =
a2 3 1 b2 −1 1 c2 12 4

a1 b1 c1
Clearly, a2
=
b2

c2

Hence, the given system has no solution and the lines are parallel.
5. (a) -2
Explanation: Given: Putting x = -2 in given equations
p(x) = 2x2 + x - 6 = 0 and q(x) = x2 - 3x - 10 = 0
∴p(-2) = 2(-2)2 + (-2) - 6 = 0
=8-2-6=8-8=0
∴ q(-2) = (-2)2 - 3(-2) -10 = 0
= 4 + 6 - 10
= 10 - 10 = 0
Since, p(-2) = 0 and q(-2) = 0
therefore, -2 is the common root of 2x2 + x - 6 = 0 and x2 - 3x - 10 = 0

6. (c) (1, -1)
Explanation: Let the coordinates of midpoint C(x, y) of the line segment joining the points A(-2, 3) and B(4, -5)
x1 +x2
x= = =1
−2+4 2
∴ =
2 2 2
y1 +y2 3−5 −2
And y = 2
= 2
=
2
= -1
Therefore, the coordinates of mid-point C are (1, -1)

7. (a) (12√3)/7
8. (c) 4 cm.
Explanation: △ AXY ∼△ ABC (AA similarity)
XY=4cm
AX AY 3 XY
= ⇒ = ⇒
AB AC 4.5 6

9. (b) 30 cm

Explanation:

AQ = 4cm
PC = 5cm
BR = 6cm
AQ and AR are tangent to cirlce from same point.
Hence AQ = AR = 4cm ..... (i)
Similarly BR = BP = 6cm ..... (ii)
and PC = CQ = 5cm .... (iii)
perimeter of △ABC = AB + BC + CA
= (AR + RB) + (BP + PC) + (CQ + QA)
= (AQ + AR) + (RB + BP) + (CP + CQ)
= (4 + 4) + (6 + 6) + (5 + 5)
= 8 + 12 + 10
= 30cm
10. (c) 1−cos θ

sin θ
sin θ(1−cos θ)
Explanation: We have,
sin θ
=
1+cos θ (1+cos θ)(1−cos θ)

sin θ(1−cos θ) sin θ(1−cos θ)

1−cos θ sin θ

11. (a) 30 m

BE = AC = 28.5 m.
From right △BED, we have

DE DE

BE 28.5m

16. (b) 35

18. (d) most frequent value
Explanation: Mode is the most frequent value of observation or a class.
19. (c) A is true but R is false.
Explanation: Distance of (5, 12) from y-axis will be equal to x-coordinate to point. So, distance of (5, 12) from y-axis

23.

Given: PQ is a diameter of a circle with centre O.

The lines AB and CD are the tangents at P and Q respectively.
To Prove: AB ∥ CD
Proof: Since AB is a tangent to the circle at P and OP is the radius through the point of contact.
∴ ∠ OPA = 90o ........ (i)
[The tangent at any point of a circle is ⊥ to the radius through the point of contact]
∵ CD is a tangent to the circle at Q and OQ is the radius through the point of contact.
∴ ∠ OQD = 90o ........ (ii)
[The tangent at any point of a circle is ⊥ to the radius through the point of contact]
From eq. (i) and (ii), ∠ OPA = ∠ OQD
But these form a pair of equal alternate angles also,

Step 1: Multiply Equation (1) by 3 and Equation (2) by 4 to make the coefficients of y equal. Then, we get the equations:
27x – 12y = 6000 ...(3)
28x – 12y = 8000 ...(4)
Step 2: Subtract Equation (3) from Equation (4) to eliminate y, because the coefficients of y are the same. So, we get
(28x – 27x) – (12y – 12y) = 8000 – 6000
i.e., x = 2000
Step 3: Substituting this value of x in (1), we get
9(2000) – 4y = 2000
i.e., y = 4000
So, the solution of the equations is x = 2000, y = 4000. Therefore, the monthly incomes of the persons are ₹18,000 and
₹14,000 respectively.

29. Given: PA and PB are tangents to a circle with centre O from an external point P.
To prove: OP is the right bisector of AB
Construction: Join AB. Let AB intersect OP at M.
Proof: In △M AP and △M BP , we have
PA = PB [Y tangents to a circle from an external point are equal]
MP = MP [common]
△ MPA = △MPB [Y tangents from an external point are equally inclined to the line segment
joining the centre to that point, i.e., △ OPA = △OPB]
∴ △M AP ≅ △M BP [by SAS-congruence].
And so, MA = MB [cpct]
and ∠ AMP = ∠ BMP [cpct]
But, ∠ AMP + ∠ BMP = 180° [linear pair]

∴∠AM P = ∠BM P = 90

Hence, OP is the right bisector of AB.

from (2),
x = y + 16,
Putting value of x in (1)
(y + 16)2 + y2 = 640
