EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The objective of this project is to provide a tutorial class for preparatory school students in
selected towns of Awi zone. Of course, students in preparatory school are assumed to be better
fed by the well experienced teachers they have in all subject matters. But still the implementation
of this project brings many more benefits for the students in preparatory schools. For instance,
the project is important in such a way that, since, the volumes of the subject matter is too huge to
finish in the normal time schedule for the teachers; so part of the book especially at the end
remains uncovered and this project assists the teachers to finish the subject properly. It is also
important to prepare the students for a better result in entrance exam via working the past exams
at the end of each chapter. Moreover, the project is vital for the students in refreshing their
memory of preparing for entrance exam. Finally, it is useful to introduce who are actually
lecturers for the students and it is helpful for the students’ psychology while joining the
university as freshman. Having this in mind, this tutorial will be given in three preparatory
schools found in Dangila, AddisKidam, and Tilili towns for a consecutive of 10 days in each
town in the weekend. The estimated cost of the three schools Dangila, AddisKidam, and Tilili is
ETB 101,246, ETB 98,226, and ETB 98,226, respectively which is fully funded by Injibara
University.

1.1. Background
Ethiopia is on its way to its renaissance aiming at achieving peace, unity- with-diversity, vast and
rapid socio-economic growth, establishment of democratic systems and good governance.
Education has often been seen as a fundamentally optimistic human endeavor characterized by
aspirations for progress and betterment. It is considered by many to be a tool to destroy poverty,
achieving greater equality and acquiring wealth and building social status (Leishangthem, 2017).
Education, in a broad sense, is any act or experience that has a formative effect on mind,
character or physical ability of an individual (Bereket.T, 2015). It can be also defined as an
important weapon of achieving sustainable economic development via investment in human
capital.
Education plays a typical role in developing the ability of a country to absorb modern technology
and capacity for self-sustaining growth and development, securing economic and social progress
in which our country is not an exception. Without more and better education, it will be
increasingly difficult to utilize available resources effectively for national development and to
benefit from the global knowledge–based economy (Teshome, 2004).
Now a day, especially after the breakout of COVID pandemic in our country the education sector
is highly vulnerable and suffered from a tight schedule to cover the subject matters and leaves
the students remaining in a low performance. Therefore, this project will have an objective to
provide tutorial for the students in economics subject matter to make improve their performance.
1.2. Rationales of the project
So far, this project idea was and is not implemented in the project area by Injibara University or
any other equivalent institution specifically in economics subject matter. As it is already pointed
out in the background and summary part, the implementation of this project benefited the
students from a different perspective. The main rationales of the implementation of this project
are assisting the students for a better score in entrance exam, sharing the experiences of the
instructors to the students about campus life, creating the exposure of students to higher
vi
institutions, creating motivation among students to join the universities, helping students to grasp
better understanding of the subject matter etc.
1.3. Objectives of the Project
The major objective of this project is to provide a tutorial for the students in economics subject
in selected preparatory schools and assisting the teachers to cover the subject matter.
The tutorial with its core objective also adds the following values to the students:
To share experiences for the students about the campus life by the instructors.
To make students morally and psychologically strong for future life.
Helping the students to prepare for the entrance exam.
To make the student efficient in their time utilization.
1.4. Methodology
The individuals /instructors who are going to provide the tutorial will be given the time schedule
and appropriate materials are also handed in advance. The tutorial will be administered only in
the weekend after the proper adjustments are made to avoid a possible clash with the extension
program running in the university. The instructors are assigned to each chapter based on random
manner as shown in the table below via the schools and the facilitators as well.
1.4.1. Work Plan
As mentioned in the methodology the tutorial will be given by using free time of instructors and
the students as well. It will be given between November 11 and February 27 for the year 2014
E.C. Time schedule for tutorial is prepared by the project developer and available in section
1.5.2 below.
1.4.2. Duration of the tutorial
The tutorial will be conducted every weekend assuming the exceptions for 5 weeks for each
school within Dangila, AddisKidam, and Tilili schools based on the time schedule prepared. The
vii
facilities of tutorial room, teaching materials like chalk, duster gown are assumed to be supplied
by the school. And some financial issues regarding transportation cost and accommodation will
assumed to be financed by Injibara University.
1.5. Target Beneficiaries of the Project
This tutorial is designed for those students who are learning in Dangila, Addis Kidam, and Tilili
preparatory schools of Awi Zone.
1.6. Stake Holders of the Project
Injibara University
The three preparatory schools
The eligible students for the tutorial
1.7. Project Sustainability
This project is aimed to provide a tutorial for preparatory students in the selected schools in Awi
Zone which is, in line with the community based objectives of Injibara University. This project
will be sustainably owned and run by economics department of the university in collaboration
with the respective schools and will be expectedly expanded to other preparatory schools in Awi
zone.
1.8. Risks of the Project
Of course, this project is not expected to be faced with big risks that actually hinder the success
of the project. But, still there are possible risks that could face the project. For instance,
identification of eligible students for the tutorial class because it is impossible to deliver the
tutor for all students, probable absence of the students from tutor, and the possible clash of the
tutor with other programmes are some of the possible risks that might face us during the
delivery. These risks will be addressed with due care through integrated approach of the project
team members and other stakeholders, because unless the risks are addressed properly it brings a
huge impact on the success of the project.
viii
1.9. Monitoring and Evaluation
The students themselves are expected to be the main evaluator of tutorial importance and
effectiveness. But, the director of the school and the teachers as well are also responsible for
monitoring the students and the project at large. The importance and continuation or termination
of the program will be based on the feedback that will be found from the students at the end of
the first round delivery in each school.
1.9.1. Evaluation
The main focuses of the follow-up procedures will done by giving due attention on facilitating
the preconditions before tutorial will be started; by doing so community service directorate will
facilitate occasion before the tutorial in collaboration with the concerned body. During tutorial
the main responsibility will be given to facilitators at large, and directors and teachers of the
schools in collaboration with instructors.
1.9.2. Roles and responsibility of team members
The instructors should work together with the teachers in the school and the director in
identifying which portion of the book should be covered by the tutorial first, the eligible students
that must be attained the tutorial, since it is impossible to include all students due to rules and
regulations of the guideline, and related issues.
The instructors are also responsible for the preparation of the necessary materials which are
important in helping both the students and the instructor for better understanding of the chapter
they are assigned.

1.9.3. Cost of Estimation of the Tutorial
The financial cost of the tutorial is determined based on the distance of tutorial centers and the
cost instructors will incurs on travel to the centers and other related issues. Based on these facts,
the tutorial cost will principally determine in collaboration with Community Service Directorate.
The cost estimation basically based on the following assumptions:
1. Average per diem allowance for instructors and facilitators
2. Professional fee for instructors and facilitators
3. Transportation cost to the centers
4. Accommodation for the instructors
1.9.4. Budget Break down
The following tutorial cost breakdown is applicable for 3 towns in Awi zone. The detailed
