Understanding Microplastics' Impact

Microplastics are small plastic pieces less than 5 millimeters that come from the breakdown of larger plastics. They can harm the environment and endanger marine life if ingested. Microplastics come from various sources like cigarette filters, cleaning products, and plastic pipes. They have been detected in marine animals and seafood consumed by humans. While the effects on human health are still unknown, microplastics pose a threat to both wildlife and people. Reducing plastic use and properly disposing of waste can help limit microplastics and protect the environment.

So as we all know, microplastics are those small plastic pieces that formed
from breaking of big and larger plastics. This pieces are measured less than 5
millimeters and can really bring harm to the environment. As a debris, it can also
endangered our marine and aquatic life because it can be digested by ocean
animals. Microplastics are a big threat to our society so it’s always better to
avoid any action that can harness the safety of every living creatures.
Furthermore, microplastics are not just a plastic particles that come from
plastic but rather from lot of resources. It may come from cigarette filters,
cleaning products, and fibers, that we used in everyday lives. And for a better
understanding, this particles can be digested too by people like us. Let’s just say
for example the tap water that we’re using and drinking. In tap water, it comes or
flow from plastic pipes and because of this the microplastic particles are
released directly in the liquid, and then people consume it. It is better to
understand the concept of microplastics, yes it is harmful but everything that has
this plastic particles are actually needed in our life.
Microplastics has also been detected in our marine life such as whales and the
seafoods that we eat. Sadly, water treatment facilities can’t make sure or take
out the traces of microplastics on water. Bind with harmful chemical, this will
surely threaten the life of our marine organisms.
On the other hand, scientists are not sure yet if it’s really bad for a human
health to consume microplastics. Whether it is or not, our government still need
to act and impose rules that will keep the safety of animals and people lives.
Since microplastics mostly bring harm to our society, it is better to avoid any
actions, activities, or habits that will just worsen the situation. Being disciplined
enough to segregate their wastes is a big help and can bring change. As for
your habit, instead of using plastic cup, plastic spoon and fork, why not be eco-
friendly and lessen the plastic. Use paper plate and any cutleries you can use
that will not produce another plastics, and so microplastics. Remember,
initiative, it is important to all of us to have an initiative to do everything and do
our best to help the nature that will soon bring changes and improvement to our
environment.
