Materials for Bahay na Bato Construction

The document discusses different types of wall panel systems used in construction. It describes masonry walls made of brick, blocks, tiles, or stone bonded with mortar. Hollow concrete blocks are discussed as well as reinforced concrete walls made of cement, aggregate, and sand mixtures. Drywall made of gypsum board and wood construction walls made with plates and studs are also summarized. Wall Panel Systems

Masonry Walls It uses brick, concrete blocks, structural clay tiles, and stone. This are
glued together using mortar. The mortar is consisting of lime, sand,
and gypsum.

BAHAY NA BATO FLAIRON BUILDING

Hollow Blocks It is made of concrete that has a hollow part in between its walls.
Used for walls as retaining walls, classic wall, etc. concrete blocks are
used in the same materials used in concrete walls.

Concrete Concrete walls are the mixtures that fills the hollow blocks usually it
contains cement, aggregate, sand, admixtures and more.

Reinforced Concrete It can be also made in pre-cast that is very useful for the internal
partitions of the building and can function as an exterior wall as well
providing a fair faced finish.
FONTAN ARCHITECTURE

Dry Wall Gypsum board is the primary material of this type of wall. It can be
used as a wall and a ceiling as well. There are regular dry wall,
moistures resistant, and mold resistant as well depending on use you
needed in construction.

Wood Construction This type of constructions are made possible with the use od wood
that consist of the elements such as bottom plate, header, jack stud,
king stud, top plate etc.

Window Type wall This is also known as a curtain wall system. This type of wall is mostly
used in the high rise building making the structure more
contemporary while taking advantage of the view within the area.

In masonry wall systems, mortar is crucial for bonding materials like bricks and stones, ensuring structural stability and longevity by filling gaps and joints . In hollow block construction, while it also binds components, its role extends to integrating other structural elements, such as reinforcements and wiring within the hollows, enhancing the system's versatility .

Gypsum board in drywall systems provides effective thermal and acoustic insulation due to its dense, solid structure, which dampens sound and resists heat transfer. The addition of different layers, such as moisture and mold-resistant versions, enhances these properties, making them suitable for various environmental conditions and improving indoor climate control .

Various admixtures enhance concrete walls by improving workability, controlling setting time, and increasing durability. For instance, plasticizers boost fluidity without additional water, while accelerators speed up curing in low-temperature conditions, ensuring timely construction progress. Retarders, conversely, aid in hot climates by prolonging setting time, crucial for large pours requiring extended workability . Together, these admixtures significantly optimize the performance and applicability of concrete walls under diverse environmental conditions .

Hollow concrete blocks are beneficial in construction due to their reduced weight, which eases handling and transport. Their design allows for better thermal and acoustic insulation than solid blocks and provides space for rebar and wiring, enhancing versatility . The hollows also reduce material costs and increase the efficiency of concrete use .

Wood walls differ from masonry walls by their reliance on wood components like bottom plates, headers, jack and king studs, and top plates to form the structural framework, which is typically lighter and less dense than masonry materials . While masonry uses heavy elements like bricks and blocks, wood construction emphasizes a framework approach, allowing for faster assembly and adjustments onsite .

Window-type wall systems, or curtain walls, enhance the contemporary aesthetic of high-rise buildings by providing extensive glass surfaces, taking advantage of natural light, and maximizing views . They are usually lighter than traditional wall systems, reducing structural load, and can integrate environmental control systems, offering improved thermal performance .

Reinforced concrete is valuable for both external and internal structures because of its ability to withstand substantial structural loads and resist forces such as tension and compression, vital for creating robust and safe constructions . Additionally, its adaptability for pre-casting allows it to serve dual purposes, providing structural integrity and aesthetic finishes .

Reinforced concrete provides structural strength and flexibility, crucial for supporting loads and being adaptable to various onsite conditions . Pre-cast concrete, made offsite, is useful for speeding up the construction process and ensuring uniform quality, especially for repetitive design elements such as beams and panels. It facilitates faster construction timelines and can serve as both internal partitions and exterior walls, offering aesthetic finishes .

Curtain walls significantly contribute to modern architecture by providing sleek and streamlined aesthetics, fostering a sense of openness with extensive glass facades that enhance natural lighting and optimize views . Functionally, they serve as non-load-bearing elements, allowing for greater design flexibility and can incorporate advanced glazing technologies to improve energy efficiency, reducing building energy demands by enhancing thermal insulation .

Masonry walls use materials like brick, concrete blocks, structural clay tiles, and stone, held together with mortar containing lime, sand, and gypsum, offering structural strength and durability . Drywall systems, primarily composed of gypsum board, are lighter and faster to install and can serve as walls and ceilings with variants like moisture and mold-resistant types for specific applications .
