Answer the following questions:
1. Find 𝐴 ∩ 𝐵, if A = {3, 5, 7, 9, 11} and B = {7, 9, 11, 13}. Also represent it by Venn Diagram

2. Find the union of each of the following sets


(i) A = {a, e, i, o, u}, B = {a, b, c}
(ii) A = {1, 3, 5}, B = {1, 2, 3}

3. If X = {a, b, c, d} and Y = {f, b, d, g} then find


(i) 𝑋∪𝑌 (ii) 𝑋 ∩ 𝑌 (iii) 𝑋 − 𝑌 (iv) 𝑌 − 𝑋
Also, represent each of these by Venn Diagram.

5. If A ={a, b, c, d, e}, B = {a, c, e, g} and C = {b, e, f, g} verify that


(i) 𝐵 ∩ 𝐶 = 𝐶 ∩ 𝐵 (ii) 𝐴 ∩ 𝐶 = 𝐶 ∩ 𝐴 (iii) (𝐴 ∪ 𝐵)𝑈𝐶 = 𝐴 ∪ (𝐵𝑈𝐶)
(ii) (iv) 𝐴 ∩ (𝐵 ∩ 𝐶) = (𝐴 ∩ 𝐵) ∩ 𝐶

6. If U = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10}, A = {1, 3, 4} and B = {5, 6}, verify that (𝐴 ∩ 𝐵)′ = 𝐴′ ∪ 𝐵′

7. If A and B are two sets such that A ⊂ B, then show that 𝐴𝑈𝐵 = 𝐵

8. Represent the following sets in Venn diagram: (i) 𝐴′ ∩ (𝐵 ∪ 𝐶) (ii) 𝐴′ ∩ (𝐶 − 𝐵)

9. Find 𝐴∆𝐵, if: (i) A = {1, 3, 4} and B = {2, 5, 9, 11} , (ii) A= {1, 3, 6, 11, 12} and B = {1, 6}

10. Which of the following pairs of sets are disjoint?

(i) {1, 2, 3, 4} and {𝑥: 𝑥 𝑖𝑠 𝑎 𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑙 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑎𝑛𝑑 4 ≤ 𝑥 ≤ 6}


(ii) {a, e, i, o, u} and {c, d, e, f}
(iii) {x: x is an eve integer} and {x: x is an odd integer}
