Review Paper on Heneral Luna

The film "Heneral Luna" is an epic war movie released in September 9,2015 written by

Rocha and Henry hunt Francia also directed by Jerrold talog, Tells the story of Antonio Luna, a

patriotic military leader who led the Philippine Revolutionary Army during the early phases of

the Philippine–American War. The film depicts Luna's struggles and determination as he faces

confrontation after confrontation with his fellow generals and the political establishment. His

stubbornness and unwavering principles make him a formidable force on the battlefield, but also

lead to misunderstandings and conflicts with his superiors. The film chronicles Luna's struggle

with his fellow generals, who are divided and lack proper leadership, and his efforts to reform

the Philippine Army. Despite his determination and patriotism, Luna is forced to face a series of

political and personal conflicts, including a controversial assassination attempt.

With a production budget of ₱80 million, “Heneral Luna” is one of the most expensive

Filipino epic historical films ever [Link] broke the previous record of ₱160 million to

become the highest grossing Filipino historical film of all time on September 29, 2015, while

also being one of the highest grossing Filipino films of all time in general. Heneral Luna's

dedication to the cause was matched only by his passion for the Filipino people. He staunchly

believed in the importance of unity and national identity, often emphasizing the need for the

revolutionaries to set aside personal differences and work towards a common goal. Tragically,

Heneral Luna's life was cut short when he was assassinated on June 5, 1899, in Nueva Ecija. His

death was a severe blow to the revolution, as it deprived the movement of a brilliant military

mind and visionary leader. The loss of Heneral Luna had a profound impact on the course of
Philippine history, underscoring the difficulty and sacrifices faced by the revolutionaries in their

quest for [Link] performance, particularly by John Arcilla as Antonio Luna, is outstanding.

He adds true empathy to the role, as well as a very gripping sense of madness that brilliantly

matches the subject's complexity (Dichoso, 2021). What is presented with certainty are the

inherent issues of the Filipino as people, with the lack of discipline and any kind of organizing

creating a number of problems for the war against the Americans, which are depicted,

occasionally in humorous fashion, as in the train incident, or more dramatic, most of the time

(Panos, 2016) . The movie demonstrates how powerful individuals, including politicians, abused

their names, positions, and influence to rig the system to suit their needs. It is clear that many

politicians and other powerful individuals have abused their positions to bend the rules to their

advantage up until this point, particularly during this pandemic (Anonymous, 2019).

Overall, Heneral Luna presents a captivating and emotional account of General Antonio

Luna's life, providing a glimpse into the tumultuous period of Philippine history, the challenges

faced by the country, and the struggles of its national heroes. The first impression of General

Luna was like “This is the kind of leaderthat the Philippine need right now”. We really adored

him for his strength, his will to protect his country and his persistent on his beliefs. The film is

totally engaging because it’s graphics and emotions shows that the movie is really worth to

watch. It’s action pack and goosebumps moments brings us back to what really happened to the

Philippine-American War.
