PROJECT PROPOSAL (Community Immersion Plan)

NSTP-AR|-1A-F|
TIME: 12:50-2:10 PM

I. PROJECT TITLE : "Building Resilience: Fostering Teen Mental Wellness"

II. RATIONALE:Our observations and experience indicate that the majority of teenagers encounter
mental health problems of various kinds, including anxiety, depression, and other conditions. To get
over mental health difficulties, like suicide, some of these teenagers are even going so far as to
rebel against and disrespect their parents, siblings, relatives, and even other people they deal with.
We want to make young people who are dealing with mental health issues or who have never dealt
with them aware that life goes on and they should just trust the process. Life is like a roller coaster
ride, and you may choose to enjoy it or scream until you can no longer breathe.

III. PROJECT DURATION: December 2023- February 2024

IV. PROJECT SITE: AROUND BAGUIO CITY AND BENGUET

V. PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the community immersion, the student will be able to:
1. Education and Awareness: Increase understanding and knowledge about mental health among
teenagers. Provide accurate information about common mental health conditions, their signs and
symptoms, and available resources for support.
2. Stigma Reduction: Reduce stigma and discrimination associated with mental health issues in
order to create a safe and supportive environment for teens to seek help and openly discuss their
mental health concerns
. 3. Early Identification: Promote awareness of warning signs and symptoms of mental health
problems among teens themselves and their peers. Encourage early identification and intervention
to prevent the escalation of mental health issues
. 4. Encourage Help-Seeking Behavior: Motivate teenagers to seek help when they are experiencing
mental health challenges. Provide information about available support systems, such as school
counselors, helplines, and mental health professionals.
5. Promote Self-Care: Educate teens about the importance of self-care practices for maintaining
good mental health. Teach strategies for stress management, relaxation techniques, healthy lifestyle
choices, and developing resilience.
6. Peer Support: Foster a culture of peer support and empathy. Encourage teenagers to reach out to
their friends and offer support when they notice signs of distress. Promote active listening and
creating a non-judgmental space for open conversations about mental health.

The project ensures its effectiveness and impact through a monitoring and evaluation framework. This involves collecting and analyzing data from various sources, such as participant feedback and pre- and post-intervention assessments, to measure changes in knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to mental health. Both qualitative and quantitative methods are used to evaluate the project's success and identify areas for improvement .

Promoting self-care among teenagers is expected to lead to improved mental health by instilling habits such as stress management, relaxation techniques, and healthy lifestyle choices. These practices contribute to developing resilience, allowing teenagers to better cope with mental health challenges and maintain emotional well-being .

The project aims to reduce stigma and discrimination by creating a safe and supportive environment for teenagers to discuss mental health issues openly. By doing so, the project encourages teenagers to seek help and support, thus further diminishing the social barriers that stigmatize mental health problems .

For sustainable impact, the project plans to share findings, outcomes, and best practices through reports and presentations, inspiring similar initiatives. Collaboration with stakeholders is key to integrating mental health education into school curricula and establishing ongoing support systems for teenagers, thereby ensuring the project's lasting effectiveness .

The project's scheduling includes activities like workshops, mindfulness sessions, and peer support groups, strategically placed over December 2023 to February 2024. This timeline ensures consistent engagement and reinforcement of mental health principles, directly aligning with the objectives of increasing awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging help-seeking behavior .

The project plans to foster peer support by encouraging teenagers to reach out to friends showing signs of distress and promoting active listening. It aims to create a non-judgmental space where teenagers are comfortable discussing mental health issues, thus facilitating a culture of empathy and peer support .

Community collaboration is crucial as it facilitates resource sharing, enhances outreach, and legitimizes the project through partnerships with schools, mental health professionals, and organizations. This collaboration not only aids in the smooth execution of interventions but also helps in the propagation and amplification of mental health awareness initiatives within the community .

Early identification of mental health issues allows for timely intervention, preventing the escalation of these problems. This proactive approach aligns with the project's objectives to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage help-seeking behavior, ultimately fostering a supportive environment where teens can address their mental health concerns early on .

The primary rationale for the 'Building Resilience: Fostering Teen Mental Wellness' project is to address the mental health challenges faced by teenagers, such as anxiety and depression. The intent is to raise awareness and provide teenagers with tools and support to manage these issues, promoting the understanding that life continues beyond these challenges. The project aims to prevent negative behaviors and foster mental wellness among teenagers .

The intervention development phase involves creating age-appropriate and culturally sensitive educational materials, workshops, and informational campaigns to promote mental health awareness. It includes designing interactive activities and using various media, such as social media and community events, to effectively engage and educate teenagers .
