PART 2
Question:
Your future job
Talk about what job you would like to have in future.
You should say:
what is your ambition
why you choose that ambition
what skills you need to have to get that job
if loving your job is more important than the money you
earn (why/why not?)
Sample answer
I hope to be a pilot one day. Going to different countries is my
biggest dream. I can travel as part of my job instead of being a
tourist. It’s not an easy job, but I like challenges. Communication
skills are very important for a pilot because a pilot works with a
team and has to be in contact with passengers. A pilot also
needs to have quick problem-solving skills. There may be
emergencies when flying, so pilots have to make sound
decisions to ensure everyone’s safety. I believe that loving my
job is more important although more money would be nice. I think
I will enjoy my job more if I love it.
What job would you like to do? Why?
I would like to be a veterinarian. My mother is one and she gets
to work with people’s pets. It looks fun. I will also get to help sick
animals. Not only that, but the pet owners will also appreciate the
healthcare vets give to their pets.
Getting advice
Talk about getting advice when you need help.
You should say:
Who you normally get advice from
How important it is to have people who can give advice
If younger people are better than older people at giving advice
(why/ why not?)
Why asking for advice is important
Sample answer
As teenagers, we face a lot of problems. Personally, I prefer
talking to my friends rather than my family. My friends can
understand me better because they go through the same
problems as I do. I get better advice from them. They can give
you different perspectives from their experience. In my opinion,
younger people are better at giving advice. It is because times
have changed and the problems that young people face today
are different from ten years ago. Asking for advice helps us to
share our burdens and problems. It is best to not worry about
things alone.
Who do you normally talk to when you need help? Is it
useful? Why?
I feel the most comfortable talking to my parents when I need
help. Their advice is useful because they have more experience
than me. They help me see things clearly. I make better
decisions when I get to hear different points of view.
PART 3
Question
How could tourism boards ensure cleanliness at tourist spots?
Organise clean-up campaigns
Run awareness campaigns
Employ more people to clean up the places
Put up signs saying “Please do not litter”
Install cameras to monitor people’s activities
Fine or punish people who dirty the places
Sample answer
A : Firstly, the tourism boards have to organise clean-up activities
if they want the tourist spots to be clean. They can involve
everyone in this effort including the community who live around
the area.
B : I agree. When everyone is involved in the clean-up, the tasks
are divided, and work can be done a lot faster. What do you
think about issuing compounds or punishing people who dirty
the places? For me, it is a good idea.
A : Yes, people will think twice before they dirty a place. People
really dislike being punished or having to pay a fine. They would
rather avoid those whenever possible.
B : That’s true but unfortunately lots of Malaysian do not even
bother to pay the fine and there are not strict action taken when
they failed to do so. Hence, this method seems to be ineffective.
Plus, it is hard to pinpoint a person who dirty the place. Unless
the authority install CCTVs. I think people will be less likely to
break rules when they know that they are being monitored.
A : You are right, but this can be expensive. You need a lot of
cameras and have to hire people to monitor the video feeds.
What about putting up warning signs at the tourist spots?
B : I don’t think that is very useful. I have seen mounds of rubbish
near these signs. People don’t take them seriously. I think
running awareness campaigns about keeping places clean is
more important.
A : Yes. Awareness should be instilled especially in children, so
they group up to be responsible adults. The tourism boards
should also employ more people to maintain the cleanliness of
these places.
Decide together which is the most effective way to ensure
cleanliness at tourist spots.
A : My thoughts are tourism boards should just employ more people
to clean up the places. These workers should be divided
according to sections where they must make sure that their area
is clean all the time. It can be tiring but the management may
come out with shift roster so the workers can take turn to work in
their area.
B : You may be right. However, I do not think the tourism boards
should have to take full responsibility for ensure that tourist spots
are kept clean. It should be everyone’s responsibility.
A : Okay, you have a point. Perhaps punishing and issuing
compounds to people are the best way to make sure the tourist
spot stay clean.
B : I agree. People do not like losing money or undergoing
punishment like community service every weekends. When
people do get punished, it sets an example for others to not
commit such an offence.
A : That is a strong point. Let’s conclude that compounds and
punishments are the most effective way to ensure the cleanliness
of tourist spots. Thank you
In what ways does tourism affect the cleanliness of a place or
environment?
A : I would say that tourism has a negative impact on the cleanliness
of a place. There has been news of tourists defacing buildings
and even natural formations by drawing graffiti. What are your
thoughts on that?
B : I have read the news too. I strongly believe that majority of
people are responsible, but there are a few rotten eggs that spoil
things.
A : Did you know that places like Mount Kinabalu and Mount Everest
are filled with rubbish? People cannot seem to enjoy these tourist
spots without leaving their rubbish behind.
B : I couldn’t agree more. Beaches all over the world are full of
plastic bottles, cigarette cartons and even babies’ diapers. No one
seems to care that the future generation will inherit this Earth.
A : Right. Tourism has indeed badly affected the cleanliness of
tourist spots. That’s why seas with heavy tourist traffic are
polluted. Fish and corals cannot survive in these places.
B : We both think that tourism negatively affects the cleanliness of
a place or environment.
